Is The Jujutsu Kaisen Manga Finished Or Ongoing? Current Status

Jujutsu Kaisen is certainly one of the biggest shounen anime going right now! With a bit of a gap between seasons, it’s no surprise anime-only fans are wondering if the Jujutsu Kaisen manga is finished or ongoing.

Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen was first published in 2018. However, Akutami has spoken before about wanting to end the manga this year, so where is the series currently?

No, the Jujutsu Kaisen manga is currently still ongoing. At the time of writing, there have been over 200 chapters released.

The first season of Jujutsu Kaisen adapted the first 63 chapters of the manga, while the movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 0, adapts a prequel story.

This means there is lots more of Jujutsu Kaisen to enjoy, whether you want to read the manga or are patient enough to wait for the anime’s return.

There have been 22 volumes of Jujutsu Kaisen released so far (the video above is the promo for volume 21). There are also spin-off Jujutsu Kaisen light novels that add more content to the series.

Is the Jujutsu Kaisen Manga Ending Soon?

While unconfirmed, it's widely believed that Jujutsu Kaisen is ending soon. Akutami has reaffirmed his desire to end the story in 2023, and recent events suggest the series' endgame is approaching, if not underway.

Back in 2020, Akutami stated that he knew how the manga was going to end but hadn’t decided how the characters would arrive at that point. Then, in early 2021, he gave an interview suggesting that he wanted to end the series within two years.

It's worth mentioning that it's common for manga titles to run for longer than their creator initially planned. For example, My Hero Academia's creator recently suggested that their series may go on longer than intended.

However, despite recurring health problems leading to delays, Akutami repeated in early 2023 that he planned to finish Jujutsu Kaisen this year.

With health becoming increasingly important to Jujutsu Kaisen's mangaka, it would not be surprising if Gege Akutami seeks to conclude the series as smoothly and quickly as possible.

No matter what happens, it’s clear that Jujutsu Kaisen has been a roaring success! Thankfully, especially for anime fans, there is plenty more of this world to enjoy both on-page and on-screen in Jujutsu Kaisen season 2.
