It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is about to make history. Back in 2005, when the show first premiered, creator Rob McElhenney probably didn’t expect the series to become the longest running live-action comedy series in American television history. But 15 seasons later, the ridiculous antics of the owners of an Irish pub are still making people laugh. Oh, and in case you expected it to end there, the series is already renewed up until season 18 according to The Hollywood Reporter.

On December 1, 2021, the 15th season of It’s Always Sunny will premiere. Since its inception, the show has been on not one, but two different cable networks (it’s now on FXX, not the original FX), and still hasn’t won an Emmy despite its popularity. That’s in direct contrast to It’s Always Sunny stars Charlie Day and Rob McElhenney’s other series Mythic Quest, which was nominated for two Primetime Emmys this year.

The newest season has just eight episodes, and in another first for the show, will have episodes where the gang goes to Ireland. You know, because they own an Irish pub? And the changes on the show’s format don’t end there. There’ll be more than one episode a week unlike before, and there’s more than one way to watch new episodes. For anyone who has cable, just head to FXX at 10 p.m. ET. Everyone who doesn’t have cable can tune in via Hulu the next day and watch through Hulu’s recent FX on Hulu collaboration. FX on Hulu features both next day premieres, and straight to Hulu streaming, like American Horror Stories.

Official Release Schedule For It’s Always Sunny

The new season will feature eight episodes. Instead of a standard one episode a week format, the show will have two episodes each week, bringing the season to a short four weeks.
