The comedy show returned for its 13th season last week (September 6), with McElhenney returning as Mac. Before the premiere of the season’s first episode, McElhenney sent out a tweet, telling fans he’d ‘done something really dumb.’

I did something really dumb this season. Check it out in 10minutes. #AlwaysSunny #Sunnythe13th

As it turned out, McElhenney had completely transformed his body, revealing a ridiculously ripped physique. You can see the reveal on the show below.

McElhenney then took to Instagram to reveal the brutal regime he went through to get his new body. “Look, it’s not that hard. All you need to do is lift weights six days a week, stop drinking alcohol, don’t eat anything after 7pm, don’t eat any carbs or sugar at all, in fact just don’t eat anything you like, get the personal trainer from Magic Mike, sleep nine hours a night, run three miles a day, and have a studio pay for the whole thing over a six to seven month span,” he wrote.

“I don’t know why everyone’s not doing this. It’s a super realistic lifestyle and an appropriate body image to compare oneself to. #hollywood” See the Instagram post below.

It’s not the first time McElhenney changed his body for the show, previously gaining 50lbs back in 2011. To gain the weight, he ate five 1,000-calorie meals a day.

Meanwhile, McElhenney is working on a new comedy with fellow It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star Charlie Day.

The series is set in a video game development studio and the scripted episodes are reported to be half an hour long. Both Day and McElhenney will also star in the series as well as serving as writers and executive producers.
