IT Chapter TwoIT Sequel Release Date Announced

Less than two years away.

Alex Osborn AvatarBy Alex OsbornUpdated: Sep 26, 2017 12:12am UTC198 commentsStephen King's IT: Chapter 2 will be released in theaters on September 6, 2019, New Line and Warner Bros. have announced.IGN can confirm the sequel to director Andres Muschietti's record-breaking horror film will debut on that date in regular and reportedly IMAX theaters.Gary Dauberman, who was one of the writers on the first film, is already on board to pen the sequel, and Muschietti is expected to return to direct. In adhering to the structure of King's original novel, the sequel will pick up 27 years after the first film and center around the same group of characters. Check out our picks to play the adult versions of the Losers' Club. From early on, IT was envisioned as a two-film story, and Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgard said he hopes to explore the more "abstract and metaphysical" aspects of Stephen King's book in the sequel.

It 2 Losers Club Cast Picks

BILL DENBROUGH: While this is a juicy role for a number of actors in their late 30s to early 40s, Jake Gyllenhaal, 36, has the acting chops and haunting intensity to portray the adult Bill, now a successful writer not unlike IT author Stephen King.View 8 ImagesBEVERLY MARSH: While it seems like Jessica Chastain is everyone's pick to play the adult, fashion designer Bev -- she's already worked with IT director Andy Muschietti on Mama -- Amy Adams, 43, simply looks more like IT's Sophia Lillis. Heck, there's even a Lois Lane reference made about Bev at one point in the movie.BEN HANSCOM: Ben thins out when he grows up and becomes an architect. John Krasinski, 37, has that same sweet/smart hybrid John Ritter had as the adult Ben in the 1990 miniseries. Young Ben actor Jeremy Ray Taylor's pick of Chris Pratt is also great, but he's a big time movie star now and may not be willing to play the third lead in a film.RICHIE TOZIER: This was a tougher one to cast than expected, but Jason Biggs, 39, seems believable as the adult version of the kid who was trying too hard to be funny but nevertheless later found some success at it in life.MIKE HANLON: While an admittedly offbeat choice, the prospect of comedian/actor and Get Out filmmaker Jordan Peele, 38, as the adult Mike is intriguing. Peele's sharp intellect makes him a good pick as the member of the Losers' Club who stayed behind in Derry to study its creepy history.
