Is this nephropathy and/or something others have had? Husband gets an itchy thumb - but on the inside (within his skin) not the outside - where it can be scratched. It drives him crazy trying to ignore it. It is not a constant or ongoing thing, and it does not seem tied to anything he eats or does. jwags

Location northeast ohio About Yourself T2 since 2007 I have poly neuropathy in my feet, hands and arms. I get a numb feeling and have difficulty picking things up with my fingers. I occasionally get itching but I think that is just from super dry skin. I take Gabapentin for my neuropathy, restless legs and Fibro. SeaJay

Location Southern California About Yourself Type 2 since 2017 I get the itchy thumb thing once in a while. It’s annoying. I think it exhibits more often when I’m anxious about something. But it’s primarily neuropathy related. Sent from my iPad using Diabetes Daily C

It itches on the "inside of your thumb"? That was is so odd when he gets this. It is not the skin that is itching, but inside, so scratching and creams give no relief as it does not touch where the itching is. Join or Login to remove this ad. SeaJay

Location Southern California About Yourself Type 2 since 2017 Neuropathy is nerve damage so the impulses along those nerves are kind of messed up. I understand that feeling tho - because it’s not itchy skin exactly and scratching doesn’t make it go away. It’s a deep, uncomfortable feeling. Neuropathy has other feelings associated with it (numbness, pain, pins and needles, etc.). I think of this as just another one on the same list. Sent from my iPhone using Diabetes Daily Q

Location Illinois About Yourself type 2 since January 27th, 2016 I have had it, not diabetes related, pre diagnosis, and not on my thumb. Haven't had it in a long while. Used to get it a lot on my c section scar. Weird cause I have no other sensation within a couple inches surrounding the scar tissue. Was told it is nerve related. I have also had it elsewhere with no explanation for why. Again not diabetes related. AnnC

Location SE QLD, Australia About Yourself Type 2 since 2011 I get similar itches on my palm, and have had them in the past on my hysterectomy scar. Like qsefthuko and her Caesarian scar, I have no sensation in that area, which makes the itchiness feel strange. Meryl A

Thank you. This has me wondering if this is the same thumb he cut while doing wood carving some years ago and I will check with him. You must log in or register to reply here. Share: Facebook X Bluesky LinkedIn Reddit Pinterest WhatsApp Email Share Link
