Jack Frost was created for this movie and in early production, many changes had come to this character. While the movie is loosely based on William Joyce's books, Jackson Overland Frost was NOT in William Joyce's books. He was added. Originally, Jackson Frost would only be seen in the movie Rise of the Guardians. While William Joyce HAD a character who for some reason spontaneously transforms into the character made for a movie. I feel I have to point this out for those who are confused about this character. For years the age Jackson Frost was trapped at, has had contradictions. The movie had many changes, William Joyce's preference for Jackson Overland Frost is 14. As he adds Jack to his books, Jack like his character Nightlight is 14. If Joyce wants to down Jack's age for his books, I really don't care. However, most people love this character because of the original movie, not the books. The original movie Jack Frost age is established by Dream Works. Dream Works had established TWO ages for the character. They had established him to be 17/18 years old. I feel this was a smart decision for it makes Jack's story in the film a whole lot worse if he was 14 instead of 17/18.

This change was a smart move on Dream Works part. If you were to change Jack's age to the age Nightlight is...14 years old. You should think about the movie through the fact of him being 14. Such as.... (Warning Incoming

This is The Man in the Moon. A super benevolent entity who looks after kids! In fact he leaves a 14 year old with amnesia alone for 300 years! Doesn't even bother to tell the Guardians of Childhood, protectors of children that this minor may need their help.
This is the Easter Bunny who HATES said 14 year old and isn't afraid to get into an argument with 14 year old. In fact the Guardians wouldn't of bothered to HELP this 14 year old if MIM didn't suddenly tell them they HAD to. I think he also enjoyed himself a little too much, having the yetis get the jump on the 14 year old and shove him in a sack. BTW it was Santa's idea but Bunnymund isn't complaining.
This Fairy has a MASSIVE crush on a minor. She may be a M.A.P
Santa takes 14 year old to his workshop. North LOCKS him in his workshop AND CRACKS his knuckles! He looks like he is going to beat the shit out of a MINOR!
At one point, the Guardians of Childhood let 14 year old go alone, to return a small child back home. Knowing fully well that a mad man who stalks children is still out there. Perhaps they shouldn't be looking after children.
When Easter gets destroyed, the Guardians outcast 14 year old and refuse to listen to him. Bunnymund nearly HITS said 14 year old and thus, would of assaulted a child.
14 year old leaves and is followed by said creepy shadow man to Antarctica. Where shadow man plans on manipulating 14 year old for his own agenda.
Looking at all this through Joyce's preference, I can see why Dream Works didn't go with 14 year old Jack Frost. By making Jackson Overland Frost into a 14 year old, the equivalent of an 8th grader. I would say The Guardians of Childhood are not fit to look after children. Their actions and treatment to Jackson Frost is CRUEL and if ANY KID NEEDED THEIR HELP THE MOST, IT WOULD OF BEEN JACK FROST! By establishing Jack Frost as a 17/18 year old, Dream Works has at least shown me that the actions of the Guardians are not poorly handled. As a 17/18 year old, Jack Frost would be the equivalent of at least a senior in high school counting the days till graduation and college. Jack Frost is old enough to take responsibility, but young enough to have energy to keep up with the kiddos. He be old enough to be a camp counselor and smart enough to know what to do, if his campers came crying and screaming to him that a "creepy shadow man" was trying to coax little Timmy with candy. By making Jack Frost 17/18 years old, I can at least see WHY the Guardians treated Jack the way they did. They don't see a child, they see a young man hence why Bunnymund acts the way he does. Why would he waste time bickering with a minor? Why would North think it appropriate to act the way he did in the beginning towards Jack in his work shop, backing him into a door? Why the heck should it be appropriate to have a GUARDIAN OF CHILDREN have a CRUSH ON A MINOR??? As a character, Jack Frost fits his folklore as a young man or sprite-like youth. Jack Frost was a neutral party before becoming a Guardian and a complex character. From what Dream Works has established, Jack Frost is a sympathetic winter entity who seems to have a bit of a baby face despite being 17/18 years old. (One Video tells Jack Frost's folklore and the other is joke on baby face)<da:embed id="f_pj_k2nD94" profile="youtube" width="560" height="315"> <da:embed id="3Oaq6N-nubI" profile="youtube" width="560" height="315">When Jackson Overland Frost was first being created, he was first imagined to be a full grown adult. They decided to change that, William Joyce wanted Jack Frost to be 14. Dream Works didn't want to go that far back as evident of the ages they established. It doesn't change the fact that MiM shouldn't of left Jack without any help or the Guardians should of been nicer to Jack Frost, but the above bits of the movie seems less messed up now. After watching the movie and Jack's whole story, Dream Works made a smart decision.
Hope this clears up things about this movie and folklore character. In the movie that was introduced to us in 2012 Jack Frost is 17/18 years old. Meanwhile William Joyce who contributed adding Jack Frost a popular character to his books. He sticks to his preference of making Jack Frost a 14 year old in his books. No about of age manipulation can change that, book Jack Frost is a forever 8th grader. Movie Jack Frost is a forever Senior in High School at least. jackfrostjelsarotgrainbowsnowconerotbtdfrostednature © 2020 - 2026 flamehorseComments17anonymous's avatarJoin the community to add your comment. SephiiusApr 4, 2020I honestly never even thought of the implications of the minor vs legal age in the movie or the book, jfc Joyce...Dreamworks DID make a VERY smart move on Jack's age though, holy crap. Could you imagine the backlash? Granted Dreamworks has a lot more experience in implied and subtle nuances when it comes to character presentation. Joyce...well, he wrote children's books before the GoC series; which was his first novel series (which is pretty evident due to lack of planning and just...everything up until book 4)God though, Tooth...I do not agree with assault on a minor, but TOOTH. God damn, why did this not occur to Joyce?? (Unless the attraction to Jack was added by Dreamworks, which it probably was, and maybe was used as a tool to convince Joyce of an older age for Jack).A lot of tactless idiots (if not straight up MAPs) have tried to justify that Jack is no longer human and 300+ years old, this his age "doesn't matter". UM. IT KINDA DOES WHEN HE LOOKS, SOUNDS, AND THINKS LIKE (insert age below 18). ReplyLoad more
