The first meaning of amari (あまり) is not too much, this amari always used with negative sentence.

Grammar amari (あまり)

JLPT Level: N5 Meaning: not really / not much Formula: amari + negative adjective/verb The kanji of amari is 余り but often written with hiragana, and sometimes read anmari (あんまり) in colloquail language. Sentence Example:
寿司が余り好きじゃないですsushi ga amari suki janai desuI am not really like sushi彼は寿司があまり食べませんkare wa sushi ga amari tabemasenHe doesn't eat much sushi漫画家はインドネシアにあんまりないmangaka wa indoneshia ni anmari naiThere is not much mangaka (cartoonist) in Indonesiaこの漫画はあんまり面白くないkono manga wa anmari omoshirokunaiThis manga is not really interestingあの少女は余りきれいじゃないano josei wa amari kirei janaiThat girl is not really beautiful
