JB Mauney hasn’t ridden in a professional rodeo since the 2021 NFR where he went 1 for 10 including a scary injury that left him unconscious. That wasn’t the only injury Mauney thought he suffered at the NFR. He was believed to have injured his groin which required surgery, but it turns out he had been riding with damage in it for years, and the more he rode the worse the injury got. Mauney said he would know if the surgery was successful by riding over the weekend and while he went 0 for 2, it appears Mauney is gearing up for a summer run.

Mauney made his much-anticipated return over at the Helotes Festival Rodeo Association Rodeo where he was bucked off.

Mauney followed that up with a ride the following night at the George Paul Memorial Xtreme Bulls event. He didn’t fare any better as he took a good spill, but bounced right to his feet after being bucked off by Rodeo Stray.

Mauney has plenty of time left in the 2022 season to qualify for his second career NFR, and as it stands, is $37,000 out of 15th place.
