• Donated money from her concert ticket sales to The Shalom Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing health care, nutrition, housing and education to the people of Guatemala
• Has supported the non-profit organization Attic Community Playground, which supports performing arts programs for students
• Graduated from Agnes Scott College, where she studied sociology and anthropology, in 1997
• Formed the Jennifer Nettles Band in 1999, which released several albums and won the grand prize in Mars Music's "The Big Deal $100,000 Music Search․"
• Formed a group called Soul Miner's Daughter with Cory Jones while the two were in college, and released two albums together, "The Sacred and Profane" and "Hallelujah․"
• From an early age, she performed at school assemblies, her church and in community theater
