Jillian "Jill" Scott (born April 4, 1972) is an American singer, songwriter, model, poet, and actress. She is known for her unique blend of R&B, soul, jazz, and spoken word music.

Jill Scott's first album, Who Is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1, came out in 2000. It was very popular and sold over a million copies. Her next albums, Beautifully Human: Words and Sounds Vol. 2 (2004) and The Real Thing: Words and Sounds Vol. 3 (2007), also sold many copies. She also started acting in movies like Hounddog and Why Did I Get Married? in 2007.

After a break from music, Jill Scott released her fourth album, The Light of the Sun, in 2011. She continued acting, appearing in the film Get On Up in 2014. In this movie, she played the second wife of the famous singer James Brown. She also starred in the TV series The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency. This show was based on popular books by Alexander McCall Smith. Her fifth album, Woman, was released in 2015.

Jill Scott was born on April 4, 1972, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She grew up as an only child in a neighborhood called North Philadelphia. Her mother, Joyce Scott, and her grandmother raised her. Jill remembers having a happy childhood and feeling "very much a loved child."

School Days and Career Dreams

After finishing high school at the Philadelphia High School for Girls, Jill Scott went to Temple University. She worked two jobs while studying to become a secondary education teacher. Her dream was to teach English in high school.

However, after three years of college and working as a teacher's aide, Jill started to feel that teaching was not for her. She decided to leave college. Before becoming famous in music, she worked at many different jobs. These included working in retail stores, at a construction site, and even at an ice cream shop.
