I remember that you wrote me a lovely comment around a year ago regarding animals. I cannot find it for the life of me, so I’ll do my best to recollect what you wrote. Yes, I do love feeding all God’s creatures, be they the foxes in my gardens or my own beautiful cats. In September, my friend was in hospital for a whole month and it was too much for her boyfriend to go to the shops and buy cat food, feed the cats and see his girlfriend all in one day. They asked me to look after the quartet of young cats, two of whom are tortoiseshell and the other two, black and white and ginger and white sisters. (All tortoiseshell cats are girls and if they aren’t, they are infertile, being ‘freaks of nature’; I’d have one though!) The four cats have settled in well, and I’m to keep them now, which I’m only too happy to do. As well as the joy of taking on these cats, I lost some cats within the past 10 months. When I came out of hospital in December, after a fall, my lovely white cat, Erramius, was dead, and then later, I lost ginger tomcat, Pixie. I’ve been in hospital four times this year after falling over, but I’ve had far more falls than that. It’s only my brother who calls the ambulances, apart from one time when I fell downstairs - twice! I phoned my doctor who called an ambulance. It’s always nice to meet the patients and staff in hospital, but not at all a pleasing arrival to return home to find Cordercelia and Melazier had gone too. The door was wide open and there were flies in every room, (courtesy of my brother) so I had to chase them with the fly spray. I have an intense disliking for flies - yuck! I will shortly open the cats’ new Sheba and make the foxes some sandwiches. Yesterday, the cats had mackerel and tuna fillets and they loved them! I feed the foxes biscuits and the other day, a huge magpie swooped down and carried one off in his mouth. It looked so funny! Well, we have another Christmas upon us. Rob, 5ft 9.5 or at least 5ft 9.25 seems better to him than flat 5ft 9. If any American president deserves an upgrade, either one of the Bush or Carter.
