With me at five foot eleven and Clay at six foot three, my plan was to whack at his body to make him come down to my height when he covered up.

At five foot eleven and one half inches, two hundred pounds, I was small for a heavyweight.

He often looks 3 inches shorter than Ali which would make him 5’-11.5, some of this may be do to foot wear and camera angle and for the fact the Ali wasn’t a legit 6’3. But someone who was a legit 6-3 was George Foreman which Joe looks at at least 4 inches shorter than Foreman. Most of the photos I find of Joe standing beside them, most of the time Ali and Foreman are hunching down a couple inches which makes it appear Joe might be a weak 6-0 when in reality there’s a lot more of a difference than that. A shorter Frazier has fought was named Jimmy Ellis who was listed at 6-1 but was more of a 6-0 to 6-0.5 kind of guy. In some photos with Ali he appears to be 5’10 and other he looks 5-11.5, there’s really no way to tell without a real measurement Tall In The Saddle said on 16/Aug/21An usual clip which has been on YouTube for years but I only found it the other day. Frazier vs Ryan O'Neal in a boxing exhibition. Maybe it's been previously referenced on O'Neal's page, not sure. Hard to make a perfect comparison, O'Neal looks a bit taller but I don't know if it's as much as 1 1/2" difference as per their respective listings. Ali also looks a bit more than 2 1/2" taller than O'Neal but Ali is in street shoes. You see O'Neal bouncing around and looking half decent. That's all well and good but Joe kept the big left hook well in check. It would've only taken one and they could've counted to 1000 without a twitch from "Oliver", homicide charges to follow. One of the comments below the clip said that Joe broke O'Neal's collarbone. That wouldn't surprise me and that would've been Joe taking it easy. Frazier was a beast! Next to Ali, Joe always appeared that bit taller outside the ring than in. I don't think Joe was insecure or trying to give a false impression. It simply would've been preferable, at least outside the ring, to be able to better "face up" to opponents that were almost always notably taller. There's a clip on You tube of Joe back in 1973 on Johnny Carson. Carson used to box in the Navy with a none too shabby 10-0 amateur record. They put on a boxing demo with both in flat boxing shoes. Carson gave good account of himself. Though mainly executing boxing moves with decreased posture, I think Joe held a slight edge in height. Johnny is listed 5'10.5" on this site. As at the time of the clip, Carson was in his late 40s so some height loss possible but not so likely. Carson was fit for his age and his posture was good. It's also possible that Carson might've been a flat 5'10" peak, a height I would've casually guessed him to be. Like Tyson, Joe should garner even more credit given the limited dimensions (height and reach) he had to work with. Great fighter. Great man.
