Early Life and Career

Joey Buttafuoco was born on March 11, 1956, in Massapequa, New York, United States. He attended Massapequa High School and later established his own auto body repair business. His early life remained largely out of the public eye until events in the early 1990s brought him national media attention.

The Amy Fisher Scandal

Joey Buttafuoco gained notoriety in 1992 due to his involvement in a highly publicized criminal case involving Amy Fisher, a then 17-year-old who became known in the media as the “Long Island Lolita.” The two met when Fisher brought her vehicle to Buttafuoco’s auto repair shop. According to court records, their sexual relationship began while Fisher was underage.

On May 19, 1992, Amy Fisher went to the Buttafuoco residence to confront Joey’s wife, Mary Jo Buttafuoco, about the affair. During the confrontation, Fisher shot Mary Jo in the face with a .25 caliber semiautomatic handgun. Despite the serious nature of her injuries, Mary Jo survived and later identified Fisher as the shooter.
