Johnny Depp may be returning in the role of Gellert Grindelwald, this is what actor Mads Mikkelsen hinted at the Sarajevo Film Festival.

He name is "cleared" after the trial

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, had Mads Mikkelsen playing the part of Gellert Grindelwald while Johnny Depp was dealing with his legal battle against his ex-wife Amber Heard, and now that it seems he has been "cleared" of having abusive behavior, it could be that the studios may be considering Depp to join Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller and Jude Law.

He received an award in Sarajevo

Mikkelsen spoke to the fans and media on his last visit to the Sarajevo Film Festival, where he received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award for his contribution to the film industry. He was also able to have some interaction with the audience, who did not hesitate to ask him about his participation in the saga based on the books by J.K. Rowling.

He might come back

At first, he acknowledged that "it was very intimidating" to replace an actor of the stature and popularity of Johnny Depp, having said that he implied that there is a possibility of seeing Depp as the evil Grindelwald once again.

He won the case, so let's see

"It was very intimidating," said Mikkelsen. "Obviously, well, now the course has changed-he won the suit, the court [case]-so let's see if he comes back. He might. I'm a big fan of Johnny. I think he's an amazing actor, I think he did a fantastic job. Having said that, I could not copy it. There's there was no way I could just copy it, because it's so much him. It would be creative suicide.

It was intimidating taking the role of Depp

He continued "So, we had to come up with something else, something that was mine, and build a bridge between him and me. So, yes, it was intimidating. His fans were very, very sweet, but they were also very stubborn. I didn't interact too much with them, but I could understand why they had their hearts broken."

No official confirmation yet

There hasn't been any information from Warner Brothers yet but having Mikkelsen's opinion about it brings back the conversation on whether or not Depp would be back.
