Game of Thrones: Trailer for highly anticipated final season

Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) has had a rather eventful time of things in Game of Thrones ever since the character was introduced in the very first episode on HBO and Sky Atlantic back in 2011. One particularly memorable scene saw Jon murdered by his fellow members of the Night’s Watch, only to be brought back to life by Melisandre (Carice van Houten) at the start of season six. Melisandre used the power of the Lord of Light to resurrect Jon Snow and here’s what there is to know about the deity.

How did Jon Snow come back to life on Game of Thrones?

Game of Thrones season six opens with Melisandre and Ser Davos (Liam Cunningham) alongside Jon Snow’s lifeless body.

Jon Snow, Melisandre and Ser Davos are all at Castle Black following Jon’s murder at the hands of the Night’s Watch.

Melisandre had spent her time in Game of Thrones supporting the one she believed was The Prince That Was Promised by the Lord of Light.

This was Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) up until season five when she abandoned him as he marched on towards Winterfell for a battle against the Boltons.

Melisandre made her way to Castle Black where Ser Davos urged her to pray for Jon Snow’s resurrection.

In the process, Melisandre reveals her true form, a withered old lady who is only kept looking young thanks to the powers of the Lord of Light.

Jon Snow is then brought back to life with a sharp intake of air.

HBO viewers then witnessed Melisandre react in pure shock and decide that it is Jon who is the Prince That Was Promised by her god.

Since being brought back to life, Jon Snow has gone on to join forces with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and the pair will battle the forces of the White Walkers in season eight.

Who is the Lord of Light on Game of Thrones?

The Lord of Light, otherwise known as R’hllor, is the god which is followed by a handful of characters in Game of Thrones.

The deity is typically followed by residents of Essos in Westeros.

Game of Thrones viewers will have also heard the Lord of Light go under a few other names, including the Red God and the Heart of Fire.

Melisandre is often referred to as the Red Woman for her belief in the Lord of Light.

In Game of Thrones season four, episode two, Melisandre described the god as: “A god of light and love and joy, and a god of darkness, evil, and fear, eternally at war.”

WHAT ARE THE GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8 EPISODE TITLES?

Several characters who will return to the cast in season eight follow the Lord of Light.

However, one of the series’ most notable followers died in the previous season.

Thoros (Paul Kaye) succumbed to the freezing temperatures beyond the wall after suffering a life-threatening bite from a wight bear.

The character had spent his time on Game of Thrones following Beric (Richard Dormer), reviving him through the powers of the Lord of Light numerous times.

Beric’s return to season eight was confirmed in the Game of Thrones trailer without his right-hand man.
