Receiving a Jury Summons from Superior Court

When you receive a Jury Summons for Floyd County Superior Court, it is a subpoena to appear as a potential juror. You have been randomly selected by a computer to provide a good cross section of the community. It is a United States Citizen’s highest privilege, and patriotic duty. It also gives you an opportunity to see how the courts in your community function under the law. Georgia law requires that it is mandatory that you serve as a juror, unless you have a legal exemption under the Georgia State Law. A person’s occupation, business, or economic status is not a legal exemption.

When you receive your jury summons, please read it carefully for instructions and information. Please complete the juror questionnaire/ information form and return it before your scheduled jury service date. These questionnaires will expedite the jury process.

Need an Interpreter?  For interpreting services, please contact the Court Administrator at (706)291-5162.

Traverse Jury

A traverse jury is a trial jury impaneled to hear evidence in a civil or criminal case. A traverse jury usually consists of 6 or 12 jurors. Traverse jury service can last an average of one week.

Grand Jury

A grand jury usually consists of 23 people and assesses whether there is adequate basis for bringing a criminal charge against a suspect. Grand Jurors serve a four-month term. The Grand Jury generally meets two days per month. Persons ineligible for service on a Grand Jury are elected officials in state or local government.

Juror Assembly

Please report to the Judicial Courthouse, 3 Government Plaza, Rome. The bailiffs will direct you to the jury assembly room where you will check-in and receive preliminary instructions.

You will be asked to call an automated line at (706)291-5155 each evening after 6:00 p.m. to see if you will need to report for jury duty the next day. A juror is paid $25.00 per day, for the days they physically serve. The days you are not required to appear for jury duty, you may resume your normal daily activities. You will receive your payment the following week on the debit card you were given at check-in. Please make sure we have your correct address and phone number on file.
