Guide Index Overview Finding the Start Location Heading To the Cave Into the Cave Comments Finding the Start Location The katana is a very good weapon to find off the start after you have gathered enough painkillers and molotovs to begin your journey into the Dead Cave (Cave #2). It is fairly straight forward compared to other caves on the map.Figuring out where your spawn is a good start and finding the location I have provided below (red dots showing the 2 cave entrances). The map will show my current location that I spawned in (I believe the plane spawn shows up in different areas every new game). For me it spawned on the hill top southeast of the giant hole (yellow dot on map).If you find the cockpit, you can also face away from it onshore, and head straight up the hill. The compass is used for general direction, but you may not find it off the start (an item obtained in a seperate area). Heading To the Cave If you would like to avoid the hassle of trekking through the main cave entrance and dealing with the cannibals/mutants, you can always find the Cave Exit listed on the map. Start from the bottom of the guide and work your way up in reverse order to get to the Katana location. If you like the thrill of it, I'd just take the guided route! On top of the hill you will find a small village with the occasional cannibals spawning in. Looking towards the wooded area going downhill, follow the trail on the ground. It will begin to veer off, but you just need to keep heading forwards and drop down the small cliff drop-off.Eventually, you will run straight into the cannibal-made totems and the cave entrance. You will know you are here when you see a few passengers hanging from a few of the totems. Into the Cave A few steps into the cave, you will be met with a boarded wall that can be destroyed with just about anything. Run down the path until you come to a Y in the cave. The left path will have a hanging passenger. Going this way will take you a different route where eventually you can obtain the climbing axe. You will want to take the path that goes right to get to the katana loot area.As you continue along the cave path will begin to narrow, but not worries you can still get through it no problems. It ends up coming into a huge opening further along. Now is a good time to get yourself ready for 3 pale cannibals and 1 Virginia mutant ahead. If you can get the cannibals one at a time to fight you without alertering Virginia, it will make the fight way easier. After the cannibals are dead, it takes about 5 molotovs to kill off the mutant. If you don't have enough painkillers or jump skills, you can always run back into the narrowed path to avoid her chasing too far.Continue forward past the passenger that is in the middle of the area and head up the boards on the ground. You will come to a rope going down the ledge, but that will be for when you are ready to leave the cave. Continue down the path that leads to the right where you will see more boards. From here you can't miss the loot room. You will come to the dead end and find a few tables with passengers that have been slaughtered. The katana is not always in the same spot, but it will be on the ground in the vicinity of the passenger that is hunched over. Before you leave the cave, it is also a good idea to go towards the right of the loot entrance and obtain the flashlight that is behind the boarded wall.To leave the cave, just backtrack to the rope ledge that you passed up before entering the loot room.Going down, you will find some suitcases as well as a toy part and drawings by your son. Continue forward and climb up the rope to freedom. You will exit on the side of the hill top you began at with the cockpit being down the hill in front of you, and cannibal village up the hill from your location.Hope you enjoyed this updated guide, and safe travels on your journey through The Forest! 37 Comments < > Arcenist [author] 17 Jun, 2022 @ 4:08pm This guide was from six years ago lol.
