Kendrick Lamar Explains Acronym in ‘good kid, m.A.A.d city’ Album

With the Oct. 23 release of Kendrick Lamar's new album 'good kid, m.A.A.d city' just a couple days away, fans have been scratching their heads over the acronym 'm.A.A.D.' in the title. In a recent interview, the Compton rapper finally revealed the meaning behind the abbreviation.

During his chat with the Los Angeles Leakers, K-Dot reveals that 'm.A.A.D.' stands for "My Angry Adolescence Divide" and "My Angel's on Angel Dust." The latter acronym was inspired by his bad experience with drugs, which is why he currently abstains from using any kind of narcotics. "It was me just getting my hands on wrong thing at the wrong time," he explains. We applaud Lamar's conviction to just say no to drugs.

He also touched on upcoming new songs with T.I. and J.Cole, and working with Drake on the 'Poetic Justice' track. Lamar says the song "felt right" for a Drizzy guest verse.

Meanwhile, during Lamar's promotional show in Los Angeles, he treated fans with a surprise appearance from his mentor and fellow Compton native Dr. Dre. The good doctor joined K-Dot for a rendition of their hometown bangers 'Compton' and 'The Recipe.'

"He's a true motherf---in' lyricist, a real motherf---in' MC and that’s what we need in motherf---in' hip-hop," he told the crowd.
