Popular radio and TV host Kidd Kraddick died of cardiac disease, according to preliminary autopsy results released Monday by the Jefferson Parish coroner's office. The cause of death is still under investigation, according to coroner's investigator Tommy Evans.

Kraddick, 53, died Saturday while in Gretna attending a golf tournament fundraiser for his charity, Kidd's Kids. Kraddick fell ill while at Timberlane Country Club in Gretna and was taken to Ochsner Medical Center-West Bank in unincorporated Gretna.

Kraddick lost consciousness on the way to the hospital, Evans said. He was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.

The autopsy determined that Kraddick, whose real name is David Cradick, suffered from an enlarged heart, according to deputy coroner Dr. Granville Morse. Kraddick also had blockages in three of his coronary arteries. “The worst was 80 percent blocked,” Morse said.

Toxicology tests are pending. But Morse said Kraddick likely went into cardiac dysrhythmia -- an abnormal heartbeat -- possibly caused by ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia. “Both of which, if left untreated, can cause imminent death,” he said.

By the time Kraddrick arrived at the hospital, his heart had stopped beating. Doctors worked tirelessly to revive him, but could not, authorities said.

Kraddick was the host of "Kidd Kraddick in the Morning," a Texas-based radio show heard on dozens of radio stations across the United States, including B-97 in New Orleans. Kraddick's charity, Kidd's Kids, annually provides trips to Disney World for chronically ill and terminally ill children.

During the weekend, celebrities and fans flooded social media, expressing shock and offering condolences about Kraddick's sudden death. His co-hosts paid tribute to him on Monday's show. "For the first time ever, we are Kidd Kraddick in the Morning without Kidd Kraddick," co-host Kellie Rasberry said during the opening moments of the show Monday morning.

Rasberry told the audience that Kraddick became ill just before the golf tournament began, and said it was thought that he was just dehydrated. "We’re just beyond devastated,” she said. “This was such a shock to everyone.”
