Kingwood is a planned community located in northeast Houston, Harris County, Texas. Planning for the community began as early as 1967, when the land was sold to a joint venture of King Ranch and the Friendswood Development Company, an Exxon subsidiary. The name "Kingwood" was derived from this association. The first village inside the community (Trailwood Village) opened in 1971. At this time, Kingwood adopted the slogan "The Livable Forest." Much of Kingwood's charm and popularity results from its heavily forested character, nature preserves, parks, and greenbelt development. Kingwood was annexed by the City of Houston in 1996. As of 2012, the population of Kingwood exceeds 70,000 and covers over 15,000 acres extending into portions of Montgomery County.

Neighboring Communities[edit | edit source]

Kingwood is bordered on the north by the City of Porter in Montgomery County, and on the south by the City of Humble and unincorporated areas of Harris County known as Forest Cove and Atascocita.
