By plane[edit]

The closest commercial airport is John Wayne Airport but the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is the largest one in the area.

By train[edit]

The closest Amtrak station is in Irvine. Metrolink shares the station and has two lines that stop there. One line goes from San Bernardino to Oceanside and the other goes from Ventura to Oceanside.

By car[edit]

Lake Forest lies between the I-5 and the 241, a toll road. The 241 ends about 5 miles south of the city, but this road can be used to reach the Riverside Area. I-405 begins a few miles north of Lake Forest and can be used as an alternate route north.

The main way to get around is by car. Not much traffic on the streets so it is easy to get around. Some places are close enough to walk to. There is also a train station that runs through Lake Forest so if you prefer to travel by train that is there for you There is also many car rental place nearby.

The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) does provide a pretty thorough bus service but it is still advised to rent a car.

For Peruvian, a good choice is Inca Mama's in Foothill Ranch [1]. If you prefer oriental, try Diho Thai/Chinese, also on Lake Forest near the I-5, same shopping center as the original Peppinos.

For authentic El Salvadorian cuisine, try El Paraiso on the corner of Jeronimo and El Toro. The food is inexpensive and is quite delicious. The main El Salvadorian dish is the papusa, which is filling but not heavy and a lot less greasy than Mexican food.

For Mexican food, several options exist: El Conejito's on Ridge Route just East of Muirlands, offers delicious, inexpensive, yet at times greasy food. Just across Muirlands is Avilla's El Ranchito, a chain restaurant with a lively decor and cheap, tasty food. Finally, for a little more class, try Miguel's in the Foothill Ranch Town Center off Bake and Town Center Drive in the same parking lot as the theater.

Lampost Pizza is also a family owned restaurant. Serves great pizza and Italian food. The environment is very kid friendly, lots of arcade games, and prize machines. Supports local baseball teams with plaques on the wall.

Bagels and Brew is a great breakfast and lunch restuarant. The best is their bagel sandwhiches for breakfast, and lunch. Great food and great prices.
