Career Overview

Lamar Odom declared for the 1999 NBA draft and was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers as the fourth overall pick. Odom became a star player and was named to the 2000 NBA All-Rookie First Team. In the 2000-01 season, he scored an average of 17 points per game and started 74 games.

Unfortunately, Odom was suspended for five games that season for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy. The following season, he was suspended once again on another anti-drug violation after admitting to using marijuana. Despite these initial setbacks, Lamar Odom’s skills helped him become one of the wealthiest NBA players in the world and an NBA legend.

The Heat & The Lakers

Lamar Odom joined the Miami Heat in 2003 and helped his new team become the fourth seed in the playoffs. While Odom had a solid year with the Heat, he was traded for Shaquille O’Neal to the Los Angeles Lakers once the season ended.

During his first season with the Lakers, Odom suffered a shoulder injury which forced him to miss the end of the 2004-05 season. By the end of the following season, after a rocky start, Odom started to hit his stride, scoring consecutive triple-doubles.

Unfortunately, more injuries limited him to only 56 games during the 2006-07 season, though Odom returned in 2007 to try and make up for lost time. However, following a lackluster showing at training camp, Odom was benched until later in the 2008 season.

He had a standout performance in February 2009, scoring 15 points to help the Lakers defeat Cleveland. Soon after, Odom won his first NBA championship after the Lakers beat the Orlando Magic during the 2009 NBA Finals.

The Mavericks & The Clippers

During his final season with the Lakers, Lamar Odom won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award before being traded to the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. However, Odom struggled often in Dallas, and his relationship with the team didn’t last long. Ultimately, he left the team in early 2012. Later, it was revealed that an argument with Mavericks’ owner, Mark Cuban, had been the deciding factor in Odom’s exit.

Lamar Odom returned to the Clippers in June 2012 and played in all 82 games for the third time. With his help, the Clippers won their first-ever Pacific Division title, fishing 56-26. In July 2012, Odom became a free agent, and while the Clippers considered re-signing him, they decided to commit to other players instead.

Odom’s Other Ventures

After leaving the Clippers, Lamar Odom signed with Laboral Kutxa Baskonia in the Spanish and Euroleagues. However, he played in only two games before a back injury benched him, and he signed up with the New York Knicks in 2014.

In 2018, Lamar joined Mighty Sports and, the following year, became captain of the Enemies squad in the 3×3 basketball league. Odom tried his hand at boxing in 2021, engaging singer Aaron Carter in an exhibition match before fighting Ojani Noa.
