A Naples lifestyle is certainly appealing. With its luxury homes, golf courses, beaches and local attractions, the rich and famous have long been drawn to the Naples area.

This includes basketball great Larry Bird. Last year Bird reportedly took his Naples home off the market and listed his Indianapolis “Dream Home” instead. That particular home sat on 1.5-acres, complete with a tennis court, swimming pool and pool house, a home theater and a wine cellar.

In comparison, Bird’s 6,000 square foot home in Naples overlooks Venetian Bay. The Park Shore waterfront home sat on the market for years without selling.

When Bird first put it up for sale in 2013, he said work commitments meant he no longer had the extra time to spend in Naples. Over a three-year span, he decreased the price slightly, but apparently not enough to lure in a buyer. He eventually took the home off the market around the same time his job commitments in Indiana changed.

Previously listed at $4.8 million, the four-bedroom, six-bath home in Naples offers a home theater, an infinity swimming pool overlooking the water and a four-car garage. It also comes complete with a large saltwater aquarium, a hot tub, a Tiki hut and a gourmet kitchen.

Not surprisingly, the Venetian Bay waterfront home even has a basketball hoop. Bird constructed the home in the early 2000s after selling a different home, which was also in Naples.

Of course, Bird isn’t the only celebrity to own a home in the city. The affluent area is filled with luxury estates and waterfront properties, including the one belonging to the former basketball star.

While some of these upscale homes sit close to the beach or right on the waterfront, other luxury homes in Naples sit within some of the region’s best golf course, country club and amenity-rich communities.
