- Larval Tears are used to Respec your character.
- See Builds for ideas on how to optimize your build.
- You do not need to defeat Rennala for the enemies to change shape when you kill them in their disguise.
- By the time you fight Rennala, you should have enough runes to buy the Larval Tears from the previously mentioned merchants.
- You will keep all the Larval Tears in your inventory upon entering New Game Plus.
- Cannot be dropped for Player Trade.
- If the player gives Boc the Seamster a Larval Tear, he will visit Rennala, be reborn with a human visage, and die soon after. The player will not be able to use his services for the rest of the game.
- Although during online coop it appears the player as a Furled Finger could pick up it as a drop from the corresponding enemies, the picked up Larval Tears will be removed from the player’s inventory upon returning to their own worlds.
- Larval Tear in the Realm of Shadow appears with a different icon and lore, but functions like the same item.
Anonymous10 Dec 2025 05:30 Rebirthing should not be possible. If you try to rebirth at Rennala it should just remove your savefile and start the game again with no warning. That would be a suitable punishment for trying to cheat by respeccing.

Old_FishHunter18 Nov 2025 04:02 I wish you could also decrease your level with it. I mean, rebirth would make you younger at the start, no? Makes sense. I do NOT want to make a new character just to play in different level range. Game made so wisely, yet does not have THIS simple option. Do you know how long does it take to get all your equipment for a new level range character? Even if you cakewalk and one shoot everything, it takes a lot of time. Atleast other souls games are short so you can finish different level build quickly. I AM NOT FIGHTING MALENIA AGAIN JUST TO PVP IN 10 LEVELS HIGHER/LOWER :sob:

Anonymous07 Nov 2025 02:23 Consecrated Snowfield Tear felt WAY harder to fight the Rune Bear than to fight the Abyss Watchers. The rune Bear had stupid HP, and ridiculous damage with weird timing. I literally killed him the same time he killed me, because I was lucky. This is also coming from the guy running a heavy weapons build that blasts most enemies to oblivion.

Anonymous21 Apr 2025 12:48 I'd stop wasting them if I felt like I was actually getting stronger. This is a problem I've had with every FromSoftware game, no feeling of stat progression. After a while I feel like I'm putting points into stats for no actual benefit. What's that? You have 80 strength? Too bad, it's still not enough to one shot a cookie cutter late game soldier. It's mind numbing that I'm effectively as strong as I was at the beginning of the game. 60 health, one soldier knocks off 2/4 of it in a few swings. I understand skill is a factor, it's just infuriating to see an enemy from the beginning of the game, still be just as much of a threat.

Anonymous14 Apr 2025 11:11 After the 1st playthrough you don't need it so much. With Elden B*tch sword you can farm many runes easily. I finished the game at RL 200 (VGR 40, MND 40, END 30, STR 20, DEX 45, INT 24, FTH 50, ARC 30); If I go to 2nd playthrought at NG+ and want to play a mage, I can farm runes and level my INT up to 70, little by little. I may use daedicar woe to make my HP acts like half of what it is or just spend 1 larval tear to make my VGR 12 and respec the other 18 pts to INT. Each NG, you can play a new build without giving up the previous ones.

Anonymous11 Feb 2025 17:46 You get so many of these that it doesn't make sense to restrict them. Either give players three per playthrough, or an infinite amount. Don't give them 20 so you can tell yourself, "Well, technically we restricted them, so it should be good." At that point it's just an annoyance, not a balancing feature.

Meaning you have like a memory thingy but once used can only remember what it's used for. Like want a faith build? Dedicate a tear towards it. Intelligente? Go one, that's two tears used. Mix different stats? Quality? Just respec with this larval tear like it's a memory vessel. And If you had enough of one build, go back to Rennala and respec with either a new tear or a memory vessel.

Anonymous19 Jul 2024 13:43 I wish the DLC ones respawned once a week in real life time or something like that. I know I probably don't need that many but I hate using finite resources. I don't want to do NG+7 again on my main save file and I don't want to have to reload save files to use different builds. To all the people that argue "this is more than enough," if that's true, then what's the problem with just letting me buy these with a bell-bearing? I would love to constantly go back between two or three builds but as it is, I just never respec at all.

Anonymous17 Jul 2024 15:13 Ok I might be alone here, but I feel like 27 per ng is MORE than enough. If you want to min/max, just use an online calculator before you respec. If you want it for pvp, you can literally just start ng+, and pick up like 14 without needing to kill a single boss. And besides, I hardly think needing to kill like 6-8 bosses per ng is a high price for 27 more tears

Anonymous23 Mar 2024 02:53 There are even fewer items to max out your weapons to +10 or +24. I don't really get why respecing your character more than 16 times is so important. If you want just rune farm and have enough stats to do whatever weapon you like? Souls games were always about choices that you can't take back. It's just how you can kill crucial NPCs and they won't come back.In my opinion, making them limited is just to motivate you to focus on actually finishing the game. In DS3, just changing your characters appearance cost you one of your respecs, so we already got a buff. Really, to me, this is the same argument that "This game is too hard! I paid good money for it so I should be able to beat it!".I dunno really, everyone is going to have thier own opinions in the end.

Anonymous20 Mar 2024 02:08 Let us buy this tears with souls. I mean, doesnt make sense, such a big big game, and you can only respec once a game? I hope we get more in the DLC.

Anonymous04 Mar 2024 03:41 Best solution: remove this dumb item. Let respec cost souls depending on what ng you are on. A high cost so that there is a soul sink in this game.

Woj2329 Feb 2024 01:43 Cool if it was infinite (bought from maiden husks) but for every tear bought the pize rises, like... 10 or 20k. 99% of people do not respec their character 16times in one game, so there is no reason to limit this imho

Anonymous25 Feb 2024 08:45 Ok seriously. In 5 min of reading these comments, there is an easy solution for all perspectives. Make an arena where you can build a spec to test on waves of npcs. No runes gained and spec is not retained after each session. Let's folks test weapons and skills without wasting valuable limited resources. 16 larval tears is then more than enough in all scenarios.

Anonymous05 Feb 2024 07:29 Oh yes, being punished for wanting to try every cool weapon/build of the game I BOUGHT WITH MY OWN MONEY, it is like it is saying: No, you can't try all you want on a single run, go do the entire content again if you want to, **** your enjoyment that you were supposed to have while enjoying every aspect of the open world, rush it if you wanna try something cool and DO IT AGAIN. Another attempt to force people on to going NG+, this should be optional, not something forced to make you enjoy 100% of the game that was supposed to have on the first run on the first place.

Anonymous18 Jan 2024 03:24 While I agree there should be a way to get more tears, it's pointless to try many different builds on the same character when there is also a limited supply of max upgrade materials. I guess going into higher NG cycles would be the only way to get more upgrade mats + tears unless you're using CE on pc ofc.

Maniac207723 Nov 2023 03:05 Oops, turns out I wanted 16 strength instead of 15, I guess I'll have only about 15 chances to waste 30 minutes of my life getting authorization from an abusive game to change 1 bit of code! "10/10 15 year old kid game design ideas" I was going to say that, but I'm sure plenty of ~15 year old devs actually game design better than this LMAO (one convincing piece of evidence is how this game still uses unmodified 13 year old broken garbage camera code from probably Demon's Souls that behaves like a professional neck snapper, the code is not just collecting spider webs it's turning radioactive)

Anonymous26 Oct 2023 02:50 There isn't actually 18 in the game, there is 16 because it is inevitable you will make the true meta build (high/max) dex/fth build with the minimum strength requirement to wield Sacred Relic Sword to slaughter Albinaurics. The other one will be used to respec into a new build with the fat stack of runes you collected.

Anonymous18 Oct 2023 03:35 There needs to be way more of these......as in why tf aren't they purchasable? Make them a high price but ffs it sucks having to go into ng+ when you like to switch up builds on one playthrough. Like holy smokes mikey I dun wanna collect all this bs again.
