posted 06-02-2003 07:15 PM Click Here to See the Profile for yes Edit/Delete Message Three days ago I brought home a 5 month old pitbull puppy. He used to be very energetic and playful at his old home with his mom.I've known him since he was just 2 weeks old so I know he's not afraid of me.But ever since I brought him to my house all he does is eat and lay down/sleep.Whenever I try to take him out for a walk he just lays there.Could it be because he misses his mom? Please help.

He isn't used to his surroundings and misses his other home that he is used to. It will take a while to get him adjusted. I think that if you do things that are interesting to him he will come around. If that doesn't seem to work here is what I would do. Lay on the floor with your dog just pet him and talk to him. Mak noises to kind of get his curiousity. When you see he is buying into it, hide your face. Act like you want to play. He will get curious. After you get him wanting to play you can start giving him toys trying to play tug-o-war or somethign that he will like. Maybe raw hide bones to get his attention set on something besides his old home. It all sounds idiotic but it will help him forget for the time being. If you show interest in him and stop acting likea human talking babyish and trying to think he wants that he will give in as well. But you need to think like a dog to get his attention. Put yourself in his situation. If you were taken from your home and everythign you know would you want someone whether you know them or not to talk to you in some baby voice thinking it will comfort you or really get down on your level and ty to understand and be there for you. Anyhow. Try it.. let me know. Good luck!!

posted 08-11-2003 07:42 AM Click Here to See the Profile for Pitfan101 Edit/Delete Message We have the laziness problem with our pit/lab mix.. we talked to the vet about it and she says its quite normal. He sleeps all day, then plays a little when my husband gets home and then at about 8 he goes back to sleep and he sleeps for the night. The vet did say that after bringing a puppy into a new home that it is normal for the puppy to sleep alot while he is ajusting but after getting him checked good by the vet and there is nothing wrong with him she said it is probably just the way he is.. lazy!
