Edit Lyrics This is a good ideaHe wouldn't do it if it wasn'tHe wouldn't do it if it wasn't oneMy friend fancies youWhat a way to begin it allYou said they're always excitingWords to hearAnd we woke up togetherNot quite realising howAwkwardly stretching and yawningIt's always hard in the morningAnd I suppose that's the price you payWell, oh, it isn't what it wasShe's thinking he looks different todayAnd, oh, there's nothing left to guess nowYou left before the lights came onBecause you didn't want to ruinWhat it was that was brewingBefore you absolutely had toAnd how can you wake upWith someone you don't love? And not feel slightly fazed by itOh, he had a struggleAnd you woke up togetherNot quite realising howAwkwardly stretching and yawningIt's always hard in the morningAnd I suppose that's the price you payWell, oh, it isn't what it wasShe's thinking he looks different todayAnd there's nothing left to guess nowQuick, let's leaveBefore the lights come on'Cause then you don't have to see'Cause then you don't have to seeWhat you've doneQuick, let's leaveBefore the lights come on'Cause then you don't have to see'Cause then you don't have to seeWhat you've doneI'll walk you up, what time's the bus come? Edit Cancel Editing Tips Keep it true to the song Fix what’s wrong, but don’t rewrite what the artist wrote. Stick to the official released version — album booklet, label site, verified lyric video, etc. If you’re guessing, pause and double-check.
Respect the structureSongs have rhythm. Pages do too. Leave line breaks where they belong. Don’t smash things together or add extra empty space just for looks.
Punctuation counts (but vibe-editing doesn’t)Correct typos? Yes. Re-punctuating a whole verse because it ‘looks better’? Probably not. Keep capitalization and punctuation close to the official source.
Don’t mix versionsIf you’re editing the explicit version, keep it explicit. If it’s the clean version, keep it clean. No mashups.
Let the lyrics be lyricsThis isn’t the place for interpretations, memories, stories, or trivia — that’s what comments are for. Keep metadata, translations, and bracketed stage directions out unless they’re officially part of the song.
Edit lightlyIf two lines are wrong… fix the two lines. No need to bulldoze the whole page. Think ‘surgical,’ not ‘remix.’
When in doubt, ask the crowdNot sure what they’re singing in that fuzzy bridge? Drop a question in the comments and let the music nerds swarm. Someone always knows.

by will10000 19y ago I love how the meaning of the line "Leave before the lights come on changes through the song because at the beginning of the song Alex says "They left before the lights came on because they didn't want to ruin what it was that was brewing" I think this is in a club and they left before the lights came on (in other words before it shut) so they didnt lose the lust and attraction they felt between eachother. Then near the end of the song he says "Quick let's leave before the lights come on cos then you don't have to see, cos then you don't have to see what yoou've done", this is the morning after when he wakes up with the girl from the club and really regrets what he's done and wants to get away as soon as possible hence the lines "I'll walk/wake you up, what time's the bus come?"
Great song anyway, whatever the meaning.

by LunaLovegood 16y ago smaksim7: that's what I thought too. Only hard in the morning? Yeah, that's what it seems like they mean. Of course, they could be saying it's only hard to leave a girl in the morning, after the things they have done and the mystery of the night has worn off.
I see this song as a guy in any club or bar, who chats up a woman because he's missing the girl he does love. He uses a cheesy line, saying that his friend fancies her, and pretty soon the atmosphere has changed into one of lust between them. They leave the club before the lights come on and it closes down, as to keep the connection alive.
I think the part of the song that mentions the girl thinking the guy looks different is one of the reasons the man wants to leave before the lights come on and she wakes up. He's afraid that she won't see him as attractive or lust after him anymore once the lights are on and she can see him in plain daylight for how he really is. He wants to leave the situation on his own terms without hte girl interfering with his view on how the night went.
It's pretty depressing, if you think about it. It's always easier to fake love in the night.

by LittleFloo 20y ago This song, to me, is about leaving a club before it shuts (ie - the lights coming up).
You meet someone in a club and because of the drink and the music and the atmosphere, it feels special, but you want to get out before reality kicks in and you find out that they aren't so special after all.
Great tune - i love it!

by oldpairofjeans 20y ago guess those are the right lyrics:
Well this is a good idea, He wouldn't do it if it wasn't, He wouldn't do it if it wasn't one. Well my friend fancies you, Oh what a way to begin it all, You said it's always exciting words to hear
And we woke up together not quite realising how, Oh when your stretching and yawning, Its always hard in the morning,
And I suppose that's the price you pay, Oh it isn't what it was, She's thinking he looks different today, And oh there's nothing left to guess now,
You left before the lights came on, Because you didn't want to ruin, All the lust that was brewing, Before he absolutely had to, And how can you wake up, With someone you don't love? And not feel slightly fazed by it, Oh, he had a struggle,
And you woke up together not quite realising how, Oh but he's stretching and yawning, It's always hard in the morning,
And I suppose that's the price you pay, Oh it isn't what it was, She's thinking he looks different today, And oh there's nothing left to guess now,
Quick, let's leave, before the lights come on, 'Cos then you don't have to see, 'Cos then you don't have to see, What you've done,
Quick, let's leave, before the lights come on, 'Cos then you don't have to see, 'Cos then you don't have to see, What you've done,
Until tomorrow comes,
I'll walk you up, what time's the bus come? I'll walk you up, what time's the bus come? I'll walk you up, what time's the bus come? I'll walk you up, what time's the bus come?

by sgt.peppper 19y ago the song is about a man with a g/f. during a night out at a bar or club, he and another pretty girl excahnge some words. "my friend fanicies you, what a way to begin it all"... and then, of course, they end up in bed together.
the next morning, before the girl wakes up and the lights in the room go on, the man ducks out, "quick let's leave before the lights come on... so that you don't have to see what you've done." (cheated)
"and i suppose thats the price you pay..." the price, cheating on your g/f
"although it wasn't what it was" even though it was purley alchohal and sex that led to the cheating, nothing more
"she's thinking he looks different today." the g/f notices something instantly different about her b/f the next morning.
"and, well, there's nothing left to guess now." the g/f is well aware he cheated on her- without him even saying it. she can just tell.
the best line: "how can you wake up with someone you dont love? and not feel slightly phased by it?"

by peaceasy 18y ago Well how can you wake up With someone you don't love And not feel slightly phased by it?
I don't understand how people can do that either. I like how all Arctic Monkeys haters complain about how they don't sing about "real issues" and have shit for lyrics when songs with meaning don't necessarily have to be about fucking fascism or global warming. A lot of their songs about relationships, but that doesn't mean they can't send a message to their audiences through those either.
On a lighter note, I really like this song. Alex's voice is just...ah. I love it.

by GamlaStan 20y ago More brilliance from Turner.
The way he can just talk about a normal situation and things that happen on a night out is excellent. It's so simple yet so effective.
I love the final verse.
