Leif the Sloth is a returning Animal Crossing character who runs a garden shop in New Horizons. First introduced in Animal Crossing New Leaf, Leif is a sloth who ran a Gardening Store that eventually merged with Timmy and Tommy's shop. He often picks weeds. In Pocket Camp, he appeared during Leif's Spring Flower Event in which players had to grow white covers, plus yellow and pink sleeping beauties to attract ladybugs to better the ecosystem. They were rewarded with new furniture, clothing, leaf tickets, and more.

How Leif Works in Animal Crossing New Horizons

In New Horizons, Leif was added to the game in the Nature Day update. Leif randomly visits your island once per week. When he visits, he’ll set up his kiosk at the plaza in front of Resident Services. He’ll sell an assortment of shrubs and flowers that you can place all over your island to decorate with. Each time he visits, he will sell the shrubs that are currently in season and flower seeds that cannot be bought from your town’s Nooks Cranny. As of the 2.0 Update, Leif now sells produce as well!

Types of Shrubs Sold by Leif

There are currently 6 known types of shrubbery that you can buy - each corresponds to a different season, and most come in two known colors. They include:

• Camellias (Pink and Red) - Bloom from early February to late March
• Azaleas (White and Pink) - Bloom from mid-April (After Cherry Blossoms) to late May)
• Hydrangeas (Blue and Pink) - Bloom in early June to mid-July
• Hibiscus (Red and Yellow) - Bloom in late July to mid-September
• Tea Olives (Orange and Yellow) - Bloom in late September to late October
• Holly (Red) - Bloom in early November to late December

Leif and Weeds

As of the 2.0 Update, Leif now offers two services relating to weeds. The first one involves purchasing weeds. You can sell him clumps of weeds for more money than you would get by selling them in Nooks Cranny.

The second, Leif’s Weeding Service, allows you to pay him 100,000 Bells to remove all the weeds on your island. The next day, your island will be free of weeds! You’ll be able to find all the weeds Leif removed in the recycling box inside Resident Service. You can then sell them back to him to make some money back!

Note: At the time of this writing, it seems there’s a potential bug with this feature that prevents Leif from recognizing the weeds on your island. This should hopefully be patched in a future update.

Leif at Harv's Island - Plant Shop

• Hours of operation: 5am - 11pm (closed if Leif is visiting your island)

The 2.0 Update introduced the shops at Harv’s Island. This upgrades Leif’s inventory and even adds new merchants to the game! To learn more about Harv’s Island Shops check out our guide or click here.

To unlock Leif’s shop at Harv’s Island, speak to the third Lloid on the right who will tell you that you can invite a 'botany expert with the greenest of thumbs. When Leif visits your island, he will usually sell plants that relate to the current season. However, on Harv’s Island, Leif offers different varieties of produce, shrubs, and seeds. These items refresh on a weekly basis. He offers the same weeding services as well!
