Lester Lloyd Coke

Lester Lloyd Coke (died 1992), also known as Jim Brown, was a Jamaican drug lord and the leader of the Shower Posse.

Biography[]

Lester Lloyd Coke was born in Kingston, Jamaica, and he was raised in the PNP-supporting Denham Town neighborhood. While he was initially a PNP enforcer, he was left for dead by his comrades after being wounded at the age of 19, only for JLP doctors from Tivoli Gardens to rescue him, thereby securing his allegiance. Coke became an enforcer for Edward Seaga's JLP, and he also became a powerful crime boss with the pseudonym "Jim Brown". He was said to be a protector of Tivoli Gardens' poor by Seaga himself, and he took over one of the "garrison constituencies" of Kingston during the violence of the 1970s. In 1976, Coke shot reggae singer Bob Marley and his wife after the PNP attempted to advertise a Marley peace concert as a party event. In 1984, he killed seven JLP defectors, and he became the boss of the "Shower Posse" gang. He used the proceeds from drug sales, stolen passport rings, and protection rackets to assist the poor of his territory, but he was later jailed for his crimes. In 1992, he was killed during a mysterious fire at his prison, and his son Christopher Coke took over his gang after his death.
