What is Low Frequency Effect (LFE)?

LFE (Low Frequency Effect) is an audio track found on all Dolby and DTS audio The audio track produces low frequency sounds, which you’ll often recognize as bass from your subwoofer. As an example, Dolby Digital 5.1. The ".1" is the LFE in the track and holds about 8-10% of the low frequencies you hear in a movie. From your receiver's Bass - Subwoofer Mode menu, you can toggle between LFE or LFE+MAIN.

• LFE allows the low frequencies from the .1 of the track to output through the subwoofer only.
• LFE+MAIN allows the LFE and the low frequencies from all speaker channels to be output to the subwoofer. You would normally choose this setting when decoding PCM based audio or playing back from an analog source.
