Liam Neeson Movie 'COLD PURSUIT' filmed segments in Fernie this April

Filming of 'Cold Pursuit' (previous working title 'Hard Powder') with Liam Neeson and Emmy Rossum took place April 10 & 11th in Fernie.

The filming in Fernie was primarily at Fernie Alpine Resort and Historic Downtown Fernie. Film crews transformed Fernie into a fictitious town named Kehoe, Colorado. Many locals came out to watch the action and to catch a glimpse of Liam Neeson and Emmy Rossum. Thanks to Liam Neeson's love of fly fishing he even dropped by Elk River Guiding Co. before leaving town.

"Having the opportunity to be the location of a big movie production, even just a segment of it, is very exciting to us and to many locals," said Jikke Gyorki, Executive Officer at Tourism Fernie. "It is also a boost to the local economy, especially during the off-season. So many of the businesses, organizations and City Hall helped to support it, while many locals were able to act as movie extras."

Remake of 'In Order of Disappearance'

Based on the 2014 Norwegian film In Order of Disappearance starring Stellan Skarsgård, Hard Powder is the English version starring Liam Neeson, currently being filmed in various locations across Canada. Both directed by Norwegian Hans Petter Moland, the film also stars Emmy Rossum and Laura Dern.

'Cold Pursuit' Trailer

Neeson plays a snowplough driver in a Colorado ski town, whose son is murdered. He seeks revenge and takes out the local drug cartel and its kingpin who are responsible, ultimately sparking a turf war.

The film is produced by Michael Shamberg (Django Unchained, Pulp Fiction) for StudioCanal, the European studio who previously made Neeson’s hit actioner Non-Stop. Cold Pursuit was written by Frank Baldwin (the upcoming The Warriors TV series).

The filming in Fernie was originally to take place in Banff but due to concerns from Parks Canada about the plot featuring an Indigenous gang boss, Banff was no longer a location. Read CBC News story. Fernie was quickly decided upon as one of the new locations. Fernie fits the plot since it's a classic ski town located in the Rocky Mountains, and has a welcoming community for the film industry. Filming has also taken place in Alberta at Fortress Mountain, at the Cranbrook Airport and Vancouver.

Release Date

The Norwegian version of the film is available on Netflix. Cold Pursuit had a cinema released on 8th February 2019. It is now streamable on Netflix.
