Lightning RodBy Luis Joshua GutierrezSamuel HeaneyDan Hammill+39.9k moreUpdated: Jul 21, 2022 5:52pm UTC

Minecraft's Lightning Rods, as their name implies, are designed to redirect Lightning Strikes to a specific spot, so long as they strike within the rod's range (64 blocks in Bedrock, 128 blocks in Java). This can be useful to prevent the creation of Charged Creepers, but it can also be used to mechanisms, as Lightning Rods produce a Redstone signal when struck. They do not direct lightning made by Channeling-enchanted Tridents, although these will produce Redstone Signals if they hit a Lightning Rod.

Struck Lightning Rods can still start damage mobs around the area, and can start fires if mounted on a flammable block. Lightning Rods can be placed both on top of or on the sides of Blocks.
