Jesy Nelson told Sugarscape that the song’s original title was “Fuck Me Like You,” but they had to change it to make it more family-friendly. However, the raunchy undertones are still present, via lines like “you got that nasty” and “love the way you give it to me.” Later in the interview, Leigh-Anne Pinnock shared what she thought would reel in listeners:

I feel “Love Me Like You” is going to gain us a slightly older audience, it’s all our friends' favorite song. We’ve never done something like it before–with a Motown vibe–but we like challenging ourselves and like to keep it fresh.

In 2020, five years after its release, the track ultimately went viral on a video-sharing social app, TikTok with the hashtag #lmly. This is not the first track by the UK’s finest to blow up on the platform. LM5’s “Wasabi” gained recognition during the summer season of 2019.
