The Ultimate Fighting Championship is widely recognised as one of the top MMA competitions globally. With skilled athletes hailing from all corners of the world, there's an abundance of talent on show in the UFC with the electrifying atmosphere and unpredictability of match-ups boosting its popularity as a fan-favourite sport.
While the UFC faced heavy criticism in the early days for its wild format lacking rules and regulations, ownership changes in 2001 meant that the organisation would see a massive restructure over the subsequent years. These changes would build the foundations of the UFC as we know it today – several decades and the addition of proper weight categories, rounds with time limits, drug testing, and stricter rules around fouls, and the UFC was suddenly looking like a prime competition for some of MMA’s most skilled athletes to showcase their talents.
Where to Watch UFC Events on TV in the UK
UK fans can watch UFC events through TNT Sports, UFC Fight Pass, or pay-per-view (PPV) options. TNT Sports is the official broadcaster, offering live coverage, prelims, main cards, and UFC-related content with no extra charges for most events. UFC Fight Pass provides access to exclusive content, fight archives, and smaller promotions for £6.99/month, perfect for die-hard fans. Major fights may be available as PPV events for around £19.95 – even though prices may vary based on the significance of the event.
When Do UFC Events Take Place?
The majority of UFC events, whether Fight Nights or Pay-Per-View (PPV) cards, are held on Saturdays in the United States. This is the norm for the organisation, as Saturday events cater well to their large North American audience.
However, if you’re in the UK, this unfortunately means late Saturday nights or very early Sunday mornings to enjoy the action. Occasionally, the UFC will host international events in time zones closer to Europe. These can fall during the day in the UK, like some shows hosted in Abu Dhabi or European cities.
US-based Events:
- The Prelims often start at 10 pm–12 am GMT.
- The Main Card usually kicks off around 3 am GMT. If there’s a particularly highly-anticipated fight, the main event could take place anytime between 5 am and 6 am GMT.
International UFC Events:
Events held in Europe or Abu Dhabi are much friendlier to UK fans. For instance:
- European events might have Main Cards starting as early as 8 pm GMT.
- Abu Dhabi-based matches (e.g., UFC Fight Island events) typically start around 6 pm GMT, with Main Cards featuring around 8 pm GMT.
