Geographic Location
The Town of Jackson is located in the northwest corner of the State of Wyoming approximately 15 miles from the Idaho border. The Town is approximately 12 miles south of the entrance to Grand Teton National Park and 60 miles south of Yellowstone National Park.
Jackson is at 6,237 feet (1,901 meters) above sea level and is 2.95 square miles. The town is surrounded by mountains: the Teton Range to the west and the Gros Ventre Range to the east. Flat Creek, a tributary of the Snake River, runs directly through town.
Climate
Jackson experiences a "humid continental climate" with long winters, which is just shy of being classified a "subarctic climate." Due to our elevation and location, we receive considerably more precipitation, most of it snow, than the rest of Wyoming. Jackson has an average yearly snowfall of 71 inches. The average low temperature in January is 5°Fahrenheit (-15°Celsius), and the average high temperature in July is 82°Fahrenheit (28°Celsius).
