Housing provides beds with safety rails that can be lofted, bunked, or unlofted. Housing staff do not loft or deloft beds prior to move-in, so some beds may already be lofted when you arrive. In most spaces, residents can change their bed configuration or request help from building staff.
Configuration Options
Many residents choose to loft or bunk the bed(s) in their room so they can have additional storage and floor space.
Lofted
Lofted beds provide 55 inches of space below the bed.
Standard
Standard/unlofted beds can be adjusted up to 27 inches above the floor to allow for extra storage.
Bunked
Most buildings have bed units that can be bunked. See exceptions below.
DIY Instructions
Residents are encouraged to loft, bunk, or unloft their beds themselves if they are able (it is easy to do with the help of a roommate/friend). Find instructions for your building below, and you can check out a rubber mallet from the Information Desk.
If you are unable or experience difficulties, you may submit a maintenance request by logging in to the Housing Portal after move-in to get help from facilities staff.
Note: Some residents will need to reconfigure their beds before moving out in the spring.

Moving Out
To help us prepare for summer, some Centennial, Territorial, and Pioneer residents may need to reconfigure their beds before moving out in the spring.
Centennial Residents
Beds must be delofted to complete your move-out. Beds that are bunked should remain bunked. Bedsprings should be in the fifth and sixth rung from the bottom and the stabilizer bar should be set at the first and second rung from the bottom. The stabilizer bar should be swung around so it's on the side closest to the wall.
Pioneer & Territorial Residents
Beds must be delofted and debunked to complete your move-out.
Double and Triple Rooms
Set one bed at "captain's height" so that the dressers can fit underneath. The stabilizer bar should go at the fourth rung from the bottom.
Lower the other beds. The bedspring should be in the fifth and sixth rung from the bottom and the stabilizer bar should be set at the first and second rung from the bottom. The stabilizer bar should be swung around so it's on the side closest to the wall.
Single Rooms
Lower the bedspring to the fifth and sixth rung from the bottom and the stabilizer bar should be set at the first and second rung from the bottom. The stabilizer bar should be swung around so it's on the side closest to the wall.
