The runtimes for Loki’s first two episodes have been revealed, and they're the longest first two episodes for any MCU show yet. Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as the eponymous God of Mischief, who embarks on an absurd time-hopping adventure after escaping during Avengers: Endgame and being apprehended by the Time Variance Authority (TVA). The Disney+ series also stars Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Wunmi Mosaku.

As the third Disney+ series in MCU Phase 4, Loki already has two comparable shows to stand next to in WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The first show consisted of nine episodes averaging around 35 minutes each, while Falcon and the Winter Soldier featured six episodes of 45-60 minutes. The streaming venue of Disney+ allows for more freedom in episode length than typical TV shows, and it’s been interesting to see Marvel Studios experimenting with different forms in Phase 4 of the MCU.

Like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki will consist of just six episodes, and the lengths of the first two have now been revealed. According to Discussing Film’s Diego Andaluz, Loki episode 1 clocks in at 51 minutes long, and episode 2 will be 54 minutes long. That puts the show very clearly in the same category as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier for episode length as well as season length, though of course, those runtimes could change notably in Loki’s later episodes. As pointed out by Andaluz, the combined 105-minute runtime for Loki’s first two episodes is longer than the first two episodes of either prior MCU Disney+ series.

For reference, WandaVision’s first two episodes, which aired together when the show first premiered on Disney+, combined for just 67 minutes. The first two episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier combined for 94 minutes. If the first two episodes are any indication, Loki will be running close to an hour on each installment. That leaves plenty of time for timeline-hopping, jumping through portals, multiple versions of characters, and all manner of other temporal hijinks.

Even with longer episodes, however, Loki will still face the challenge of fitting a full, measured story into just six episodes. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier struggled a bit to find a strong and consistent pacing through that same length, but with Loki looking to focus on a much smaller group of core characters – like WandaVision – that hopefully won’t be a problem. At the very least, Hiddleston should be plenty entertaining for every minute he spends on screen. Early reactions for the series have been very positive so far, and MCU fans will be able to judge it for themselves when Loki premieres on Disney+ on June 9.
