Long-time Mariners Star Kyle Seager Retires After 11 Seasons

Veteran third baseman Kyle Seager has announced his retirement after 11 seasons, all with the Seattle Mariners.

Seager made the announcement in a statement posted to his wife Julie’s Twitter account.

“Today I’m announcing my retirement from Major League Baseball,” the statement reads. “Thank you to all of my family, friends and fans for following me throughout my career. It’s been a wonderful ride but I am unbelievably excited for the next chapter of my life.”

Seager, the older brother of Rangers shortstop Corey Seager, is among the Mariners’ all-time leaders in a number of statistical categories including games played (fourth), hits (fourth), runs scored (fifth), home runs (fourth) and RBIs (fourth).

The 34-year-old was an all-star and Gold Glove winner in 2014. He retires having played 1,480 games with 242 home runs, 807 RBIs and 1,395 hits.

He appeared in 159 games in 2021, hitting .212/.285/.438 with a career-high 35 home runs and 101 RBIs to help the Mariners stay in the playoff race until the final day of the season.
