The human body has several types of tissues, a specific one being connective tissue. Situated virtually at every site, both internally and externally, it is crucial for providing strength, elasticity and metabolic support for all other tissues.

You can imagine it as a scaffold supporting surrounding structures and the cells which constantly try to maintain homeostasis. In order to perform its function, connective tissue has certain distinct components, such as cells and fibers. The proportions and organizations of the fibers result in several types of connective tissues, one being loose connective tissue.

This article will first describe some general aspects of connective tissue and then it will zoom into the key components of loose or areolar connective tissue.
