Advanced Search Loretta Devine is an American actress and singer known for her performances in TV shows like ‘Boston Public’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ As a child, Devine used to sing in church choirs; this marked the beginning of her interest in music. She continued to take active part in music events in her high school. However, when she wanted to pursue music professionally, she did not find scholarships or opportunities and thus turned to acting. After completing her formal education, she moved to New York and started doing acting workshops. One of these was an experiment called ‘Project 9.’ Devine participated in four workshops of ‘Project 9’ and when the experiment became the Broadway show ‘Dreamgirls,’ she got a major part in it. This show became her stepping stone to the world of acting. Not only did she get cast in more Broadway shows but also started getting film offers. In her long career, this much-decorated actress has played hundreds of roles. From playing police officers to businesswomen to being the voice of an animated hippo nurse, Devine is as versatile as it gets.
