We love the name Luca because it means “bringer of light.” It is also the Italian and Turkish name for the gospel of Luke, and we have history with both those countries.

Luca is derived from Italian origin and means “bringer of light”. It can be masculine or feminine. Feminine spelling can be spelled as Lucca and I’ve even seen the spelling as Luka. I chose Luca because of it’s meaning, bringer of light because that’s what he is to me, my light. ?

We were looking for something that sounded good in Spanish and English, that was classic sounding and had a beautiful meaning. It also helps that I was pregnant during the World Cup and Luca is a famous soccer player…. 🙂 Luca means “bringer of light” and also “from the town of Lucca” (Italy). Interestingly, my husband’s last name Botero is Colombian, by way if Genoa Italy in the 1800s, and Genoa is right down the coast from Lucca! It was perfect!

Luca was a name we both liked (we didn’t even have a short list) and when he was born the nurses started throwing out name ideas for us. The first nurse said she always wanted to have a boy named Lucas and my husband took that as a sign and called him Luca the whole time in the hospital to try it out. It worked!
