Warning: SPOILERS for Lucifer's Series Finale - "Partners 'Til The End."
Lucifer season 6 ended the series with an emotional and poignant finale that wrapped up all of the main characters' storylines while giving the Devil his due. Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) entered season 6 poised to become God after defeating his evil twin brother Michael. But the arrival of Rory Morningstar (Brianna Hildebrand), Lucifer's daughter from the future, kept the Devil distracted from ascending to Heaven and becoming the Almighty. Instead, Lucifer chose to form a relationship with Rory, his child with Chloe Decker (Lauren German), and solve the mystery of why he vanishes from her life.
Lucifer's series finale, "Partners 'Til The End," saw the Devil rescue Rory from the clutches of Vincent Le Mec (Rob Benedict), the hitman who murdered Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro) in Lucifer season 5. Le Mec wanted to kill the Devil but, instead, Lucifer prevented Rory from murdering Le Mec and becoming her own version of the Devil (complete with a Devil face like Lucifer's). But Rory being kidnapped and rescued by Lucifer was the key to why he vanishes in Rory's future; throughout Lucifer season 6, the Devil has been inadvertently redeeming some of Hell's denizens as well as helping Dan's soul reach Heaven. Lucifer realized that his true calling isn't to become God but to return to Hell and help every damned soul break their Hell loops and achieve redemption in Heaven. But this mission means leaving before Rory is born, and it's the explanation for why Lucifer vanishes from her life.

Along with resolving Lucifer season 6's central story about the Devil, his daughter, and Chloe Decker, the issue of who will replace God (Dennis Haysbert) as the new Almighty was settled with the best and most obvious choice: Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) gained God's powers and became "Amenagod." But Amenadiel also chose to be a different kind of God than his father was, and with Lucifer in Hell, it was Amenagod who oversaw the lives of their friends and family on Earth. Lucifer's season 6 finale ended the series on a genuine emotional high as the show's beloved cast of characters received their just desserts, but it also seems to close out the possibility of Lucifer continuing with a future season 7.
Why Lucifer Becoming Hell's Therapist Instead of God Makes Sense (But Also Doesn't)
When Lucifer realized that Hell never needed a jailer and really needed a healer for all of the damned souls, he returned to the underworld and set up shop as Hell's therapist. The Devil was obviously inspired by and mimicking his own therapist, Dr. Linda Martin (Rachael Harris), and he even designed his office to be identical to hers. Considering that time in Hell moves differently than it does on Earth, there's no telling how long in Hell-time Lucifer was working as a therapist before Chloe joins him, but it could be many thousands of years.
The Devil working to redeem the damned one soul at a time is an ingenious payoff that plays into the numerous lessons Lucifer learned during his time in Los Angeles throughout the series. Presumably, the Devil still has ways to indulge himself in Hell since he cannot return to LA for fear of disrupting the timeline and jeopardizing Rory's life. In the meantime, Lucifer has thrown himself into his noble work and his emulating Linda also shows how much respect he truly has for the doctor, which he told her in their final meeting. But it also seems like Lucifer opting to spend the rest of eternity in Hell (again) tending to the damned and their problems is a much worse job than being God.
Indeed, Lucifer's poignant ending for the Devil skirts an obvious plot hole: Lucifer could have done all of this good and infinitely more if he had simply ascended to Heaven and became God. Considering Lucifer season 5 entirely built to the Devil succeeding his father in Heaven, Lucifer not even attempting to claim omnipotence was a letdown for fans who wanted to see what would happen with Lucifer ruling the universe. Ultimately, Lucifer not becoming God makes sense and holds true to the Devil's character but it was strange and a bit frustrating how Lucifer never even considered that gaining Godhood would have instantly answered all of his questions and solved all of his problems in Lucifer season 6.

Why Chloe Joins Lucifer In Hell After She Lives Out Her Life With Rory
Chloe Decker was also bound by fear of disrupting the timeline and damaging Rory's life. Decker held up her end of Lucifer's bargain and lived out her life on Earth as Rory's mother, despite being separated from her beloved Devil for the remainder of her time on Earth. Chloe quit being an LAPD detective in Lucifer season 5 so that she could help Lucifer when he became God, but she returned to her true calling as Lt. Chloe Decker to run the Homicide division while Lucifer is in Hell. Decker was also already pregnant with Rory and Lucifer's finale time jumped to Rory's birth before rocketing forward to Chloe dying of old age decades later. This was also the point that led an anguished Rory to time travel back to get revenge on her absent father, but the Devil's daughter returned to her mother's deathbed to bid her goodbye.
Of course, Chloe went to Heaven when she died, just as she did when she was killed in Lucifer's season 5 finale. But Chloe was touched by the divine since birth and she also has the unique advantage of being dear friends with and loved by the new God, Amenadiel. In Heaven, Amenagod offered Chloe the chance to go "home," which means reuniting with Lucifer because Chloe's true home is by her beloved Lucifer's side, wherever he is. It's fitting, then, that Chloe's eternal life is to be Lucifer's partner redeeming souls in Hell, just as they were partners solving murders for the LAPD.
Amenadiel Becomes A God Who Walks Among Humanity
Amenadiel became God after Ella Lopez's investigations into strange phenomena around the world led Amenadiel to realize that the world was going to end because, in God's absence, his brother and sister angels began granting humanity's wishes and breaking reality. Amenadiel was also furious when Lucifer, who decided he didn't want to be God after stalling for months. Amenadiel rejected the idea of becoming God in Lucifer season 5 because he wanted to remain on Earth and be a father to his baby son, Charlie. Amenadiel also wanted to pursue his desire to become a police officer, in part, to honor Dan Espinoza after he died, although the noble angel was quickly disenchanted with the harsh realities of police work.
In truth, Amenadiel becoming God is the best choice of all of Lucifer's options, and he has the necessary amount of compassion and love for humanity to be the Almighty. Amenagod's biggest change, however, is to be a different kind of God than his distant father who ruled from afar. Instead, Amenagod lives among humanity so he can be better in tune with what people need, and so he can stay close to his friends and family. Meanwhile, despite believing that Charlie was mortal and could never fly to Heaven, Amenadiel and Linda were shocked that Charlie sprouted angel wings, so perhaps Amenagod is keeping certain aspects of mortality within himself so he can still enjoy some of the benefits of being human.

Trixie Absolves Dan's Guilt So He Can Go To Heaven (& Be With Charlotte)
Dan Espinoza shockingly died in Lucifer season 5 and season 6 revealed he went to Hell because he had unresolved guilt about dying. Thanks to Rory, Dan returned to Earth but was stuck as a ghost only Lucifer could see and talk to. But it was by inadvertently possessing the body of his killer, Vincent Le Mec, that Dan finally realized - and resolved - the source of his guilt: by dying, he left his daughter Trixie (Scarlett Estevez) without a father. Using Le Mec's body, Dan was able to see Trixie one last time and absolve himself of his guilt, which allowed him to go to Heaven. In the Silver City, Dan AKA "Detective Douche" is rewarded with eternal bliss after a heartwarming reunion with his true love, Charlotte Richards (Tricia Helfer). Considering the tragedy that befell Dan, he got an ideal ending.
Lucifer's Friends Continue Without Him Thanks To The Sacrifices He Made
Ella Lopez finally learned that Lucifer is the Devil in season 6 and, after she pieced the truth together herself, she was understandably hurt that her friends lied to her for years. But Lucifer not only sincerely apologized but he also honored Ella by donating millions to establish the Miss Lopez STEM Initiative to encourage more young women to follow in Ella's footsteps. In addition, Ella's predilection for bad boys that led to her dating a serial killer in Lucifer season 5 was resolved as she found a genuinely good man to be her boyfriend in Detective Carol Corbett (Scott Porter).

Meanwhile, it's not clear if Dr. Linda Martin ever publishes her tell-all memoir, "Sympathy for the Devil: My Time With Lucifer Morningstar," that all of her friends read in Lucifer season 6. Chloe and Dan's daughter Trixie got to be the older sister to Rory, who, in turn, has to grow up never knowing her father so she can angrily travel back in time and let Lucifer season 6's predestination paradox play out. As for Michael, he was last seen trapped in his own Hell loop but perhaps the Devil will eventually redeem his evil twin brother so Michael can get back to Heaven.
Will Lucifer Return And Is There A Future For The Devil?
Lucifer season 6 is the definitive end of the TV series as it existed on Fox and Netflix since it wraps up all of the characters' stories. However, the beauty of an immortal character like Lucifer Morningstar, who is part of The CW's Arrowerse, means that the possibility exists that Tom Ellis could return as the Devil in some fashion in the future. Indeed, Lucifer season 6 seemed to toy with the idea of a sequel series when Rory raved about More Bones, a continuation of Lucifer's favorite Fox series, Bones, set in her future. For now, however, Lucifer season 6 closes the book on the story of the Devil and Chloe Decker.
