Playing through Link’s Awakening but find yourself frequently running low on things like magic powder, bombs, and arrows? Well, good news! Hidden across this game’s colorful, mysterious island are three caves where a character named the “Mad Batter” will allow you to expand your inventory and carry more of these precious resources. The Mad Batter will be upset that you entered his home and will “get his revenge on you” by forcing you to carry more stuff, which is actually much more helpful than he’s implying. Here’s how to find the three caves that will help you carry more items.

While each location has an upgrade associated with it, you can actually choose "N-No" to be offered a different one!

Carry More Magic Powder - Under a Stone in The Mysterious Woods

You’ll need the level one Power Bracelet for this first upgrade. Head to the center of the Mysterious Woods, just south of a dead tree with an opening in it surrounded by three rocks and guarded by two red slimes. To the right, you’ll see a lone rock on the ground. Lift it up and enter the cave, then sprinkle some magic powder in the fire pit in the center of the room and you’ll summon the Mad Batter, who will gift you with the ability to carry more Magic Powder.

Carry More Arrows- South of Mermaid Statue in Martha’s Bay

Head to Martha’s Bay - just south of the Mermaid statue and the giant stone catfish that houses the fifth dungeon where the found the flippers - and you’ll see a large patch of bushes surrounded by potholes. Jump across the potholes while slashing your sword and you’ll hopefully create a clearing to land on. Slash through the bushes to the right until you get to the stairwell. Take the stairs down through the cave and reemerge outside again in a narrow area guarded by trees and a lone Buzz Blob. Walk to the left to enter another stairwell, and then head down and throw some magic powder in the fire pit to get the ability to carry more arrows for the rest of the game.

Carry More Bombs - Top of Tal Tal Mountain Range

Head up the ladder to the right of the giant egg in the northern mountain section of the game and make your way through the caves, passed the first waterfalls and up to the small house at the top where a cucco (aka chicken) obsessed man lives. Hookshot your way across the broken bridges on your left, slash the bush, and make your way through the caves again. Travel outside past the narrow paths where the boulders are rolling down until you’re at the peak, and then head left. You’ll see a bunch of rocks on the ground. Lift the rock just below the treasure chest, enter the cave, and throw some Magic Powder on the fire pit to gain your second item upgrade: more bombs! Extra bombs are tremendously helpful against bomb-hungry enemies like Dodongo Snakes, which are very prevalent in the latter half of the game and require three bombs each to be destroyed, so this upgrade is very helpful!
