Understand[edit]

The township of Mahwah is a 26.7 square mile suburban community located in Bergen County, New Jersey. Mahwah is located in Northern New Jersey and is a mere 30 miles away from New York City. The name Mahwah is derived from the Lenape word, "mawewi" which means "The meeting place" or "place where paths meet".

Roads and Highways

Interstate 287 and Route 17 merge in Mahwah, and US. Route 202 also passes through.

- Route 17- Follow Route 17 North to Mahwah exit sign "Sufferen/Morristown on right.

-Garden State Parkway- Leave Garden State Parkway at exit 163 (left lane exit) to get onto Route 17 North. Follow Route 17 North using directions above.

-Route 287-Take Route 287 North to Mahwah exit 66.

-Train- New Jersey Transit rail service is available from Mahwah train station

-Bus- Short Line Bus offers services to and from Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan and intermediate locations

Being 26.7 square miles, Mahwah is the largest town in New Jersey's Bergen County so if one is just passing through, staying the weekend, or living in Mahwah, a car is a must. For those who do not have or own a car there is a bevy of public transportation, like train stations and bus stops all over town. Being such a large town, going from one end of town to the other can take an average of 15-20 minutes by car, making biking, running, or walking only useful for relatively local destinations.

-Campgaw Mountain Ski Resort- 200 Campgaw Avenue. A 1650 foot main slope with natural and machine made snow is the center of this ski area. The ski center includes eight trails, five lifts, one with a mid-station, and a 600 foot school slope serviced by a T-bar lift and two handle tows. -Ramapo Valley Reservation- 610 Ramapo Valley Road. Hikers enjoy exploring the wooded hillside, with its 15 miles of marked and informal trails. Ramapo Valley Reservation includes part of the Ramapo River, Scarlet Oak Pond and McMillan Reservoir. With a camping permit, tenting is permitted beside the Ramapo River and the lower lake, Scarlett Oak Pond. Catfish, panfish, perch, trout and bass fishing is permitted, a fishing license is required. -Palisades Center Mall-1000 Palisades Center Dr, West Nyack, NY 10994. is the eighth largest shopping mall in the United States by total area, and sixth largest by gross leasable space.As one of the nation's most lucrative malls, the industrial style mall, which houses over 400 stores.
