Netflix show Maid has proven a real hit with its spectacular scenery and incredible sets, which have let many wondering where it was filmed.

While Stephanie Land's memoir is set in Washington State, most of the filming actually happened over the border in Vancouver, Canada.

That allowed the crew to bring together some of Canada's best scenery with a few shots filmed in Montana.

Over 160 different locations

Overall, there were over 160 different locations used for filming, mostly in the Victoria Island region to the south-east of Vancouver Island.

The area was also featured heavily in Godzilla and The Twilight Saga so they may be recognisable.

It's not unusual for popular film locations to be used for numerous projects like this, and with Victoria's views, it's easy to see why.

Downtown Victoria

Most street scenes are filmed in the most urban area of Victoria Island, relying on the picturesque scenery to give a local feel to farmers' markets, restaurants and more.

Saanich

Value Maids, where Alex gains employment, is actually Tillicum Laundry in Saanich.

Sidney

Used for many of the ocean scenes, including ferry rides and pier meetings, Sidney is at the very north of Victoria Island.

Esquimault

Alex and Maddie arrive at a women's shelter in the very first episode, which is set here in Esquimault, just west of downtown Victoria.

Colwood

Home to several street scenes and Maddie's playschool, among other locations, this area has also featured in The X-Men film series and Deadpool.

Within this area, you may also recognise Royal Beach, where many of the show's coastal scenes were filmed.

Cadboro Bay

Home to Regina's house with sea views, the Bay is known for its spectacular scenery and clearly appealed.

East Sooke

The oceanfront cabin apartment that Alex rents on Fisher Island is filmed in East Sooke, with the cabin itself even available for rent on AirBnB.
