Essential Stats
- Persuasion Points:
- Charm: 8 recommended, 7 minimum
- Intimidate: 10 recommended, 8minimum
- Minimum Decryption: Easy Decryption
- Minimum Electronics: Easy Electronics
Recommended Squad
- While fighting isn't mandatory, if you expect to get into a conflict here then you'll be up against a lot of Biotics. Because of this, Liara and Tali are good picks for their immobilization powers like Neural Shock, Damping, Singularity and Throw.
Major Kyle Acquisition
Interestingly, there's a rather diverse array of ways to get this Assignment early as "Strange Transmission". However they're all optional, since you'll get it automatically if you travel to the Century System in the Hawking Eta cluster where it takes place. We recommend one of the optional methods however since they all involve hacking, which gives a bit of XP.
Here are the methods, which you may want to use as you get XP for the hack:
- On the Citadel, you can hack a laptop in Executor Pallin's office at C-Sec HQ in the Presidium Embassies.
- On Feros, you can hack a Server Node next to the ExoGeni VI while in ExoGeni headquarters.
- In Noveria, you can hack a Server Node in the Reactor Repair room, up on the second floor of the area.
Travel to Century
- Location: Hawking Eta - Century - Presrop
Whether or not you hacked something to get this Assignment as "Strang Transmission", travel to the Hawking Eta cluster. It's the most Northerly cluster in the Milky Way (discounting Sentry Omega and the Pangaea Expanse), and is closest to the yellow galactic core.
When you arrive you'll be contacted by Admiral Hackett, who'll debrief you on the situation: an Alliance veteran has started a biotic cult under the name "Father Kyle", and his followers killed two Alliance operatives who tried to negotiate with him. If you pick "Maybe I can reason with him", you'll get +2 Paragon Points.
Make sure to grab these Discoveries while you're here:
| Stellar Object | Side Quest | Subset | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Metallic Asteroid | Valuable Minerals | Heavy Metal | Palladium |
| Canctra (3rd planet) | Valuable Minerals | Light Metal | Cobalt |
| Tharopto (4th planet) | Signs of Battle | League Medallion | N/A |
Once you have them, travel to Presrop. It's the moon of Klendagon, the second planet in the system.
Find the Commune
From the starting position, you'll need to head South-South-West over the mountains to the Biotic Compound, marked with a 5 on the map above.
When you arrive, there's a large concrete disc that serves as the entrance to the East half of the compound. This is where Major Kyle is, however it's locked shut. Your only option is to go to the large building nearby.
- Med Kit - On the East side of this building is another container room: check the shelves inside for this.
Investigate Major Kyle's Compound
When try to enter the compound, you'll be told that outsiders such as yourself aren't welcome in the compound. There's a few ways this can go:
- Picking "You can't keep me out!" at any time will cause everyone in both halves of the compound to turn into hostiles. The East side where Major Kyle is will remain shut, forcing you to enter the West half, fight through the biotics, then use a Terminal inside to unlock it manually.
- Pick "I'm here to see Major Kyle", then pick either "I'm here to help" or "Alliance officers are dead". They'll then be replaced with Persuasion options:
- If you have 3 Charm, pick "You can't help them now" to convince them to peacefully unlock the East half of the compound, for +2 Paragon Points.
- If you have 5 Intimidate, pick "He'll get you all killed!" to convince them to peacefully unlock the East half of the compound, for +2 Renegade Points.
Whether you picked the Persuasion options or not, you'll want to consider entering the Western half of the compound anyway, as there's loot items inside it. Just keep in mind that if you entered peacefully, shooting the biotics will turn them into hostiles.
If you couldn't convince the biotics to unlock the Eastern half of the compound, you'll need to hack into the Western half, then find a Terminal in the lower side-room and hack it, unlocking the Eastern half. If your Squad isn't capable of Easy Decryption, you'll have to leave and come back with somebody who is.
Here's everything you can find inside the Western half of the compound:
- Lower floor:
- Locked Crate - Easy Decryption. In the "lobby" room, on your left behind the large boxes.
- Locked Crate - Easy Decryption. In the main room. To find it, stand at the entry door facing South. Walk forward past the giant claw-like objects, then make a U-Turn to the left around the large boxes between the second and third "claws"; you'll find the Locked Crate among these boxes.
- Technician Kit - In the side-room, at the bottom of the shelves on your left when you open the entry door.
- Terminal - Easy Decryption. In the side-room between two servers. You'll need to hack this in order to get inside the Eastern half of the complex.
- Malfunctioning Object - In the South-West corner of the side-room, close to the Terminal.
- Upper floor:
- Medical Kit - In the side-room, on some shelves to your right if you stand in the entry door.
- Aid Station - In the South-West corner of the side-room.
Once you're done, exit back outside, then take the Mako and drive over to the Eastern half of the compound.
Talk to the Major
Inside the Eastern half of the compound, if you haven't upset the biotics, keep up on your good behaviour: shooting them will turn them all hostile. Of course, if you forced your way into the Western half, they'll already be hostile.
You'll find Major Kyle in the South-West room of the compound. This conversation is a bit complex when it comes to getting to the end results, so here's how it all works:
- Picking "Enough crazy talk" at any time will have Shepard kill Major Kyle for +2 Renegade Points, and turn every remaining biotic in the compound hostile.
- Pick "I tried to help you" when it shows up and Shepard will be forced to killed Major Kyle, for +2 Paragon Points.
- Pick "You will pay for your crime" and Shepard will be forced to kill Major Kyle, for no Morality Points.
- If you have 8 Charm, pick "You can't help them now" to convince Major Kyle he needs to stand down for +8 Paragon Points. All remaining biotics will be non-hostile and can't be shot at.
- This option requires 10 Charm if you hacked your way into the Western half of the compound.
- If you have 8 Intimidate, pick "Surrender or they all die!" to force Major Kyle to stand down for +9 Renegade Points. All remaining biotics will be non-hostile and can't be shot at.
- This option requires 10 Intimidate if you hacked your way into the Western half of the compound.
If you used a Persuasion option, it's not over yet! Major Kyle says he can't leave with Shepard, or else his subjects will get the wrong idea and you'll be forced to kill them in self-defense.If you pick "Forget it!" and then "No!", Shepard will be forced to kill Major Kyle, and any biotics in the compound will turn hostile on you. Any other combination will result in a peaceful resolution to the Assignment.
However this confrontation went, you'll now want to sweep for items (after killing the hostile biotics, if that applies to you). Here's what you can find:
- Crate - From the entry to the main room, follow the wall counter-clockwise and you'll find this behind two concrete pillars.
- Medical Kit - On the Western face of the North-Western pillar in the main room.
- Storage Locker - On the Northern face of the South-Western pillar in the main room.
- Technician Kit - On your left when entering the South-East room, among three beds.
- Malfunctioning Object - In the South-West corner of the room, near some shelves.
If you entered this area peacefully but had to kill Major Kyle, you may as well enter the Western half of the compound and kill all the biotics there for loot, XP and credits. You won't get brownie points for sparing them in this situation, so you may as well make the most of it.
