This tutorial will explain how to adjust the audio levels of video or audio tracks in iMovie.

Adjust/Even Audio Levels

After recording video in different locations or when mixing video clips and voiceover narration, you may realize that the audio levels of different tracks differ. iMovie makes it easy to adjust the volume up or down to even out audio across these various clips. In the Timeline, iMovie will present audio levels as a Waveform underneath video clips (or separately for voiceover or other audio tracks). Option 1

  1. Select a clip that you would like to adjust.
  2. Position your cursor over the Waveform. (For video clips, this will be the blue area under the clip preview.)
  3. Click and drag the Waveform up to raise the volume of a clip or down to lower the volume.

Option 2

  1. Select the clip you would like to adjust.
  2. Select the Volume panel by clicking its icon above the clip preview in the upper right corner of the iMovie interface.
  3. Drag the slider to the right to raise the volume or drag left to lower the volume.
