Menu
Below is a map that shows the location of rest areas along Interstate highways. The map is interactive so you can zoom in closer for more detail, select a marker for rest area information, or select the “View larger map” icon at top-right to open the map in Google Maps.
Using the Map
To make the map easier to use as you travel, you can turn layers on and off within the map legend. To do this, select the icon at top-left to expand the menu. Then check the boxes next to the rest area layers you want to see. For example, if you are heading west, check the box next to “Westbound” and uncheck the others. It is recommended to leave the “Both” option checked.

How many rest areas are there in the United States?

There are around 1,400 rest areas.

Where do I find these Rest areas? On Interstate I-75 on the way to Tennessee from Kentucky side. Not able to find any rest areas. We drove from Piedmont South Carolina to Iowa to pick up new Camper. No on the way home from Iowa this morning. Not able to find rest area now. About 20 minutes from London Kentucky. We are tired and need to rest. Does anyone have list please

The rest areas are represented by blue dots on the map above. The map is interactive allowing you to zoom in and out as needed. You can also view a list of rest areas by interstate and mile marker. That feature is accessed by selecting the “List by Interstate” from the menu above or follow this link: https://www.interstaterestareas.com/rest-areas-by-interstate/

The two Dandridge rest stops on I40 should be indicated as one direction only each.
-
We see that there is a new rest stop on I-39, mile mark 85 for northbound traffic. South of Rockford, Illinois. We didn’t it on the map when we were looking for one in that area.
-
Thanks for posting the comment. You are referring to the Willow Creek Rest Area near Paw Paw, Illinois. Both the northbound and southbound rest areas are indicated on the map, about 40 miles south of Rockford.

I’m only going to post this comment once. Currently there are more than 200 comments posted to this site; the majority are questions about the open/closed status of rest areas. If people took some time to look through this website, their questions would be answered. Here is the notice that appears at top-left (if using a desktop computer; if on a cell phone, it appears just after this comment section):
“This website is owned and operated by Roundabout Publications. We are not affiliated with any State Department of Transportation (DOT) office and are unable to assist with items left behind in a rest area, vending machines, cleanliness of bathrooms, employment opportunities, or open/closed status.”
For all of you asking about the closure status, this means “I don’t know and cannot tell you whether any particular state has closed their rest areas.” You will need to do some of your own research and visit the DOT website or call the office of the state in which the rest area is located.

Thank you, your site is great!
