'Marry Me' Is The Most-Streamed Day-and-Date Movie On Peacock

Jennifer Lopez’s “Marry Me” is the most-streamed day-and-date movie on Peacock, and Will Smith’s gritty “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” reboot “Bel-Air,” which debuted on Super Bowl Sunday last month, is the platform’s top original series.
“We launched a movie on Valentine’s Day, ‘Marry Me,’ [which is] day-and-date the most-streamed movie we’ve had,” Comcast CEO and chairman Brian Roberts said during Morgan Stanley’s Morgan Stanley Technology, Media & Telecom Conference Monday. “And we launched a new drama, ‘Bel-Air,’ and it was the most-streamed new show we’ve had.”

“Bel-Air’s” status as the most-streamed original series on Peacock is likely due in part to the high-profile drama’s much-promoted debut on Feb. 13, the same day that NBC aired Super Bowl LVI. Other original series on Peacock include “Saved by the Bell,” “Dr. Death,” “Girls5Eva,” “Rutherford Falls” and “One Of Us Is Lying,” among many others.
The NBCUniversal-owned Peacock is still new to the day-and-date release model, with the only two other films to launch on the streamer the same day they hit theaters being 2021 Universal titles “Halloween Kills” and “The Boss Baby: Family Business.” Universal plans to make several of this year’s upcoming movies available on Peacock 45 days after debuting on the big screen.
“Marry Me” landed on Peacock and in theaters on Feb. 14, settling for an $8 million opening. To date, the film has grossed $47 million worldwide and $21.4 million in the U.S.
Universal has been using the pandemic, which dramatically shifted the power dynamic between cinema operators and distributors, as an opportunity to test unprecedented release strategies to both maximize its own revenues and grow Peacock’s subscriber base. Two Universal movies, “The Boss Baby: Family Business” and “Halloween Kills,” broke industry tradition by landing day-and-date on Peacock, though most of the studio’s titles played exclusively in cinemas before moving to digital platforms
