Marvel's Spider-Man follows the story of a young Peter Parker on a quest to rid New York City of the evil that plagues it. He breathes a brief sigh of relief after putting a stop to Wilson Fisk's reign on the city, but this newfound peace only lasts for so long.

Mister Negative reveals himself shortly after Fisk's capture and attempts to claim the power the former crime boss once held. Spider-Man is the only being capable of halting Mister Negative's sinister goals, but there are numerous obstacles standing in his way. Players can quickly burn through Marvel's Spider-Man if they focus solely on the main story, but the only way to collect Challenge Tokens is to embark on a few detours.
Unlocking Taskmaster Challenges
Mister Negative and his goons aren't the only threats that Peter faces on his journey. He will encounter an array of villainous characters throughout his time in New York, but not all of them appear during the main story. Some can only be met during side activities, meaning that the player will have to briefly halt their quest to vanquish Mister Negative if they hope to see them.
The Taskmaster Challenges, unlocked after completing the "What's in the Box?" mission, are the only means of obtaining Challenge Tokens. The mission itself requires Peter to quickly travel across New York to destroy a series of explosives while being timed. The mission can be completed with ease, but the challenges unlocked after doing so are much more laborious.
Collecting Challenge Tokens
Taskmaster Challenges can be found scattered across the entire city. They have been set up by the mysterious Taskmaster as a means of testing Spider-Man's skills and deducing if he would be a worthy recruit. Four different variations of these challenges exist with each tasking Peter to perform a different feat.
Bomb Challenges
Bomb Challenges operate similarly to the "What's in the Box?" mission. Taskmaster has placed several bombs throughout the city and manipulates Peter into finding and disarming them as quickly as he can. It is a relatively simple task to complete, but the time restraints can add severe pressure.
Combat Challenges
Combat Challenges require Peter to take down a group of enemies in whatever means he can. They require certain maneuvers to be performed to obtain the full reward and will need to be completed within a time limit.
Drone Challenges
Drone Challenges allow the player to put their web-slinging abilities to the ultimate test. Peter must pursue a fleeing drone across New York while dodging the obstacles that stand in his way. A misplaced web or poorly aimed jump will see the drone escaping his reach, making the Drone Challenges some of the most difficult tasks in the entire game.
Stealth Challenges
Stealth Challenges will task Peter with infiltrating an enemy hideout and dispatching all those present swiftly and quietly. The mission will be failed if he is detected, leaving no room for error. They can be completed easily with patience, but the time restraints force the player to complete the Stealth Challenges as quickly as they can.
Bonus Objectives
There is a total of 16 Taskmaster Challenges spread throughout the map. Each challenge will reward Peter with 6 Challenge Tokens upon their completion, but only if the bonus objectives have been met. Some suits and gadgets require Challenge Tokens to be spent to obtain them, so it is likely the player will need to partake in a few of Taskmaster's games to acquire the upgrades they seek.
Completionists, however, will have to best all challenges posed by Taskmaster if they hope to receive the "Be Greater" platinum trophy. Challenge Tokens are a finite resource, so amassing the entirety of Peter's wardrobe will require some serious work.
The points earned from a Taskmaster Challenge will decide on the number of Challenge Tokens received. 1 will be gifted if the player performs poorly, 3 if they performed well, and 6 if all objectives were met. Each challenge requires a different number of points to be earned to reap its rewards, but some are more difficult than others.

Beating the Taskmaster's challenges is the only way to obtain Challenge Tokens, so it is recommended the player attempts to do so while progressing through the main story to make the process less arduous.
Marvel’s Spider-Man is available on PS4 and PS5, with a PC version releasing on August 12.
