Mass Loaded Vinyl, or MLV, is a Vinyl-based sound membrane designed to add maximum soundproofing and dampening to your wall assembly. With STC 26, our 1 lb/sf MLV can improve wall soundproofing performances by 40% or more. Much more efficient than simply stacking layers of drywall, Mass Loaded Vinyl can be used to provide broad-frequency sound attenuation performance. Installing a single layer on to wood- or metal-frame assemblies increase their STC by 10+ points, effectively doubling their soundproofing performance.

Our Mass Loaded Vinyl (MLV) Sound Barrier is a specially designed MLV product engineered to block the transmission sound waves. It comes in rolled goods, 4′ wide, that are stapled or screwed to framing studs (or on top of existing drywall) to attenuate sound passing through a wall. Mass Loaded Vinyl came provide the same STC increase (sound reduction) as 3-4 layers of drywall, and at a fraction of the price. On single stud walls with a single layer of Mass Loaded Vinyl (and one layer of drywall on each side) STCs of 56+ can be achieved, well above codes and standards for multi-family and hospitality projects.

MLV Sound Barrier is a cost-effective noise solution and is one of the more versatile products on the market as far as application. It can be used for enclosing noise sources, deflecting sound waves, and can be wrapped around or molded to the shape of something allowing it to be used in a wide variety of sound scenarios.

MLV Sound Barrier soundproofing material is a high density, nonporous material that exhibits a non-resonant quality due to its flexible nature. It is one of our most popular soundproofing products. The MLV Sound Barrier is available in various sizes and densities, blocking the transmission of sound energy and damping vibrations caused by sound energy in any environment.

    my client asked that i use the vinyl sound barrier they sell here. We ordered it and got it 3 days later – really pleased with the quality. Truck had a lift gate to help us get it down or i wouldve needed 2-3 guys to help unload the pallet. installed on ceiling/walls/floors – it was quiet before we even put the drywall on! super pleased with customer support and product.

    The Mass Loaded vinyl is really heavy stuff. It seemed to do the job on our walls well though. We had our contractor put it into the movie studio/theater and the master bed wall, and both of them are really quiet for us now…

    I wanted to calculate the estimated price of soundproofing for walls, ceiling, and fooring, Could you please advise?, how much pressure-sensitive adhesives consumed in MLV sound barrier. What will be the cost of adhesives?

      In most cases, you should budget an additional $2-$3/sf for soundproofing with Mass Loaded Vinyl. This allows for PSAs (Pressure Sensitive Adhesives) along with labor and material for installing the MLV.

    I am looking to use this as a temporary sound proofing measure for a vocal booth in an apartment; however, the reviews here sound like it comes in a quantity that exceeds both my needs and ability to carry into my apartment (one reviewer mentioned needing a truck lift gate and multiple men to lift the pallet). Is my impression accurate? If so, are there any other size/quantity options?

      Hi Gordo, Yes, this material weighs 1 lb/sf and only comes in 4’x25′ rolls weighing 100 lbs total. Unfortunately, we don’t sell this in any other sizes, but the material is easily cut using a utility knife or razor blade, so you could cut the roll into sheets prior to carry it inside.

This product is meant to wrapped around pipes in order to mitigate the noise that they can cause. It can also be used around loud HVAC vents, Trash Chutes and Trash Compactors.

    The fiberglass layer helps to keep the rigid pipe from touching any other rigid materials, and the mass loaded vinyl layer blocks the noise created by noise within the pipes such as flowing or flushing water.
